Warner Bros.’ MORTAL KOMBAT took in an estimated $28.8M from 38 global markets in bringing its worldwide cume to $50.115M. Please note, the film opened this weekend to $22.5M to lead the box office in North America.The action adventure is inspired by the hugely popular video game stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Chin Han and is directed by Simon McQuoid.
FUNimation’s DEMON SLAYER -KIMETSU NO YAIBA- THE MOVIE: MUGEN TRAIN earned a healthy $22.9M in 21 international territories including North America where the Japanese Anime film enjoyed a strong debut of $19.5M to take the second spot. The film has been playing internationally for weeks and now has a massive global cume of $448.5M.Set after the events of the television series, has the main characters embarking on a new mission as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of over 40 people aboard the Mugen Train.
Warner Bros.’ GODZILLA VS. KONG has crossed the $400M mark globally!This weekend the hit film grossed $9.9M globally from 43 markets in release (including the U.S. and Canada), $5.7M internationally (for an international cume to date of $320.0M) and $4.2M in North America (for a N. Am. cume to date of $86.6M) for a whopping worldwide cume to date of $406.6M.
■ Global/International Highlights Outside of the Top 3:
Sony’s THE UNHOLY took in $1.9M this weekend in 12 territories for an international cume of $4.7M. Mexico launched #1 with $1.2M, which is 10% ahead of THE GRUDGE and THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE
Sony’s MAN IN LOVE, the local language remake of the 2014 South Korean romantic drama, continues its impressive run in Taiwan, down 39% to add $1.2M in its 4th frame. The pic has held the #1 spot for the past 3 weeks, and the market cume has climbed to $11.3M.
Sony’s PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY pulled in another $900K this weekend for an international cume of $16.3M from 434 screens in Australia ($14.4M cume) and New Zealand ($1.9M cume).
Universal’s NOBODY, now in its fifth weekend internationally, earned $735k in 16 territories for an international cume to date of $16.496M.Combined with the N. Am. weekend of $1.86M, the global weekend took in $2.595M for a running global cume of $38.168M.
