NEW DIRECTORS FROM JAPAN Blu-ray/DVD Set from Third Window Films

Source: Third Window Films Special Thanks to Adam Torel

Third Window Films have always tried hard to bring a wide variety of films from the Far East to the West, from big studio productions to minor indie masterpieces, and this project is another step in their goal to open up the West to what`s so great about Asian cinema. The NEW DIRECTORS FROM JAPAN project, hopefully the first of many (depending on its success!), is focusing on young and unique directors from Japan whose films have not received any sort of distribution in their own or any other territory. Started through a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign which reached its goal of pre-selling 250 copies in just 3 days from its announcement, NEW DIRECTORS FROM JAPAN is a limited edition set of only 1,000 copies. This is a DUAL FORMAT release that includes BOTH a Blu-ray and a DVD of the films, as well as a separate extras DVD disc featuring interviews with all the directors involved. The release is ALL REGION for all discs so can be watched anywhere! The package also features a card-board slipcase. With 250 copies already sold through the Kickstarter campaign, and another 400 through pre-orders, there are literally only a few hundred left, so don`t miss out! The 3 disc set focuses on three directors with four films that are both `unique` and `entertaining` and fit into the Third Window Films brand perfectly... Two films from Nagisa Isogai (?? ? - Aged 28): MY BABY (???????? - 16mm / 16mins) Isogai presents a sharp-eyed depiction of a love-hate relationship between sisters. With a baby on the way, Hatsumi (Momoyo Fujii) goes to a shrine with her younger sister Chika (Aki Morita) to pray for a safe delivery, but falls down a flight of steps and miscarries. Half a year later, Chika gives birth. Hatsumi drops by to offer her congratulations but learns that Chika has named her daughter Aoi, which was to have been the name of her own child. THE LUST OF ANGELS (????? - HD / 40mins) Saori, a school girl, is molested on the notorious "molester train" of the Hanagawa line and rescued by another school girl who witnesses the act. The girl who rescues her turned out to be a new student of Yamashiro Gakuen high school, which Saori also attends. The mysterious new student Yuriko, is rumoured to be a "parent killer". Yuriko then leads Saori and her friends to hunt molesters on the Hanagawa line. An incident in the past influenced Yuriko to absolutely distrust men, however Saori observes the world in a much more calm fashion, though she has a secret that only she keeps to herself. Confronting their own desires, they go out of control. After a shocking encounter and separation between the two high school girls, their desires never to meet and reconcile, like train tracks never to cross. Those desires lead to a horrific end. From Hirobumi Watanabe (???? Aged 31): AND THE MUD SHIP SAILS AWAY (???????? - HD / 88mins) Pitiful Takashi Hirayama is stubborn, unemployed, unmotivated, and lives with his grandmother in Ohtawara City in Tochigi. One day, he is visited by a girl who claims to be his dead father`s daughter. From Kosuke Takaya (???? - Aged 27): BUY BLING, GET ONE FREE (?????? - 35mm / 27mins) After being dumped by his girlfriend while on a date, Naoto Kamono gets really down. ‘What’s wrong with my fashion?’ he wonders as he’s told off for being embarrassingly over-the-top with his see-through jacket, feather shorts and patterned tights. But, one day, a man offers him the chance to become a fashion model, and Kamono enters a strange and unimaginable world. This film is part of a Japanese government initiative from an organization called VIPO who run a project called `New Directions in Japanese Cinema`. Every year they work with 5 first time directors and make 30 minute films on 35mm! This release we also interviews the producers of VIPO to explain more about their project.
