Source: Source: Legendary Entertainment press release Special Thanks to Sheana Knighton Legendary announced today plans to produce a live-action feature film version of MY HERO ACADEMIA (???????????, Boku no Hiiroo Akademia), based on Shueisha’s globally popular manga franchise created by Kohei Horikoshi. With more than 17 million copies in circulation and nine spots in PD BookScan`s Top 20 U.S. adult graphic novels list for August 2018, the 2017 winner of the Sugoi Japan Award for Best Manga, My Hero Academia continues to grow into a global print powerhouse across both print and television. My Hero Academia posits a world in which 80% of humanity has developed some sort of special powers, known as quirks -- not all of them super, and not all used for good -- and focuses on a young boy who obsessively follows the new heroes while having no abilities of his own. Debuting from publisher Shueisha in 2014, My Hero Academia has swiftly become one of the headline manga of their Weekly Sh?nen Jump series -- a rip-roaring adventure elevated by strong art, charming characters, and consistent mastery of battle story fundamentals. The anime series, now in its third season, is one of the most popular in Japan and has become a hit abroad as well and an animated feature film, MY HERO ACADEMIA: TWO HEROES (??????????? THE MOVIE ???????, Boku no Hiiroo Akademia THE MOVIE ??-ri no H?roo?, 2018), recently premiered in the US to fan elation. The project will be produced by Legendary, with Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter overseeing on behalf of Legendary, and Ryosuke Yoritomi in charge on behalf of Shueisha. Toho will distribute the film in Japan. Legendary currently has several films in various phases of production including GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS and the live-action POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU in post-production, both set for release in 2019, and GODZILLA VS. KONG in pre-production toward a May 2020 release.
