The historic Dryden Theater has made some changes to their "The Enduring Legacy of Godzilla" film series that kicked off in September. Originally,  the schedule next featured GODZILLA, MOTHRA AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK (aka GMK, 2001) on November 13th before wrapping up with GODZILLA MINUS ONE (2023) on December 4th. Now GMK and MINUS ONE will be shown together as a double feature on the 13th, with the newly-added TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA taking the December 4th slot.

"The Enduring Legacy of Godzilla" screenings are introduced by the University of Rochester's professor of Japanese Visual and Cultural studies, Joanne Bernardi Ph.D, as a tie-in with her “Atomic Creatures: Godzilla” course.

    REVISED SCHEDULE

    Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 7:30 p.m. - Double Feature!

GODZILLA, MOTHRA AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK
(Gojira Mosura, Kingu Gidora Daikaijû Sôkôgeki, Shûsuke Kaneko, 2001, 105 min., 35mm, English dub)

    GODZILLA MINUS ONE
(Gojira -1.0, Takashi Yamazaki, Japan 2023, 124 min., DC, Japanese with English subtitles)

Part of the enduring legacy of Godzilla is the fact that each era of filmmaking takes the character back to its roots, identifying the kaiju as a malevolent force devastating the coast of Japan. In our first film (colloquially known as GMK by its fans), Godzilla represents the accumulation of vengeful souls from World War II, ready to forcibly remind a nation that has moved on from the wounds of its past. All that stands against him are the three guardians of Japan: Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Baragon. Our second film takes the legend of Godzilla back to the aftermath of World War II, as a failed Kamikaze pilot leads a hopeless defense of Japan from the beast born of war and nuclear radiation. Two great films for the price of one!
