The movie opens in Japoanese cinemas on March 31st.
Four years have passed since the release of TOUKEN RANBU: THE MOVIE (映画刀剣乱舞-継承-, Eiga Tōken Ranbu -Keishō-, 2019), a blockbuster hit that depicted a shocking conclusion to the "Honnoji Incident" in which swordsmen and the Sengoku warlords such as Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Hashiba became entangled. The scaled-up TOUKEN RANBU: THE MOVIE 2 is finally completed, changing the stage of battle to the modern era.
The main character, Munechika Mikazuki, is once again played by Hiroki Suzuki. Also returning from the first film are Yoshihiko Aramaki as Kunihiro Yamanbagiri, Masanari Wada as Hasebe Heshikiri, and Fuma Sadamoto as Toushirou Honebami. From the TOUKEN RANBU stage play come Mizuki Umetsu as Chogi Yamanbaragi, Eto Konishi as Kunihiro Horikawa, Reo Honda as Hitofuri Ichigo, and Yuki Tamaki as Kogarasumaru, their roles from the live production. New to the cast are Takamichi Sato as Higekiri and Ryosuke Yamamoto as Hizemaru. Shiori Akita, Miki Yanagi, Tsubasa Tobinaga, and Masami Horiuchi portray "temporary masters" who assist the warriors in the present day, and Satsuki Nakayama brilliantly performs the difficult role of Shuten-douji. Rounding out the cast are Akira Emoto as Fujiwara no Michinaga, Kanji Tsuda as Minamoto no Yorimitsu, and Terunosuke Takezai as Abe no Seimei, all of whom represent the best talents in the Japanese film industry.
The director is Saiji Yakumo, continuing from TOUKEN RANBU: THE MOVIE. The director aimed to fuse the world view with reality, and gathered Japan's best art, costume, makeup, and other technical staff for the new film. In the sword fighting scenes, which iare the real thrill of TOUKEN RANBU, wire work and the latest drone technology are used to showcase the sword fighters' impressive performance. The VFX team, which has worked on numerous blockbusters such as AVENGERS: ENDGAME, has joined to deliver a Hollywood-quality visual world.
The theme song is "Destiny," written for this film by BLUE ENCOUNT, whose emotional songs continue to to stir the emotions of listeners. The song takes the film into an even more magnificent world.
