KADOKAWA Corporation announced the animated series GAMERA - Rebirth- will be coming to NETFLIX worldwide on September 7th , 2023, during the GAMERA -Rebirth- Panel at Comic-Con International 2023. The upcoming Studio ENGI anime will consist of a brand new animated Gamera story, having all 6 episodes air on September 7th 2023. Ahead of its release, an exclusive edit of GAMERA -Rebirth-‘s 1st Episode premiered for the very first time, alongside a second trailer showing new footage of the series at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Hiroyuki Seshita, the Director of GAMERA -Rebirth-, and Kan Takahama, the Kaiju Designer of GAMERA -Rebirth- are also present at Comic-Con 2023 from Japan.

Serving as the first animated entry in the Gamera franchise, studio ENGI brings a brand new original Gamera 3DCG Anime. The iconic giant monster that has captured the hearts of kaiju fans worldwide, returns with a 6-episode anime full of exciting battle scenes between Gamera and 5 different Kaiju. The newest trailer shown at Comic-Con, revealed at last that the last to be announced, 5th Kaiju of the lineup will be VIRAS, and it showcased the Main Theme song of the series, “Natsuake” by WANIMA.

What is "Gamera"?

Gamera is a giant monster or kaiju, that first appeared in the live-action kaiju film GAMERA THE GIANT MONSTER (大怪獣ガメラ, Daikaijū Gamera), produced by Daiei (now KADOKAWA) in 1965. Ever since, it has become an icon in its own right, appearing in a total of 12 theatrical release live-action films through GAMERA THE BRAVE (小さき勇者たち～ガメラ～, Chīsaki Yūsha-tachi Gamera, 2006), making the Gamera franchise one of the longest-running film series. As its newest and first ever animated entry in the GAMERA franchise, the anime series GAMERA -Rebirth- will be coming to NETFLIX worldwide in 2023

As the primary monster of the franchise, Gamera is a heroic monster that defends humanity from threats and acts as a guardian for children and justice when earth is in danger. Gamera is described as having a unique personality and a humorous design modeled after a turtle with the ability to fly and breathe fire. Gamera gained popularity for its unique attributes, such as its rotating disk-like flight and for its bravery in confronting any formidable foe.

「ガメラ」とは

大映（現：KADOKAWA）が1965年（昭和40年）に公開した特撮映画『大怪獣ガメラ』に登場する怪獣。

ガメラは地球の危機から人々を守る、子供や正義の味方であり、カメがモデルとなったユーモラスなデザインや飛行能力など独特の個性を持つ。

円盤状で回転飛行をするなどのユニークなスタイルと、どんな強敵にも立ち向かう勇敢な姿に人気を博し、『大怪獣ガメラ』以降も『宇宙怪獣ガメラ』まで昭和ガメラシリーズとして全8作品が製作された。

その後も「平成ガメラ三部作」や、『小さき勇者たち〜ガメラ〜』のガメラシリーズが展開されている。

In summer of 1989, sixth graders Boco, Joe and Junichi are on their last summer vacation as elementary school students. Brody, the son of a US military commander, suddenly appears before them stealing away the money they had saved. Furious, they begin plotting how to get their money back, but as they are about to carry out the plan, the kaiju Gyaos, suddenly attacks Tokyo. Petrified before Gyaos, a huge kaiju appears out of nowhere. Its name is Gamera. And so their "Summer of Kaiju" begins. Kaiju appear one after another, but Gamera heroically fights back despite its wounds. The boys witness the legend.

 最後の夏。友達。そして怪獣——。
1989年夏、小学６年生のボコ、ジョー、ジュンイチは、小学生最後の夏休みを迎えていた。
それぞれの心にある、将来に対する漠然とした不安。
そんな３人の前に、在日米軍司令官の息子、ブロディが現れた。
3人で貯めた現金をうばっていくブロディ。
怒ったボコたちは、お金を取り返すための作戦を計画する。
その作戦を実行しようとした時、町に危機が訪れる。
怪獣ギャオスが突如、東京に襲来したのだ。
ギャオスによって廃墟となった町に立ちすくむ４人。
ギャオスが彼らに狙いを定めた時、巨大な怪獣が現れる。
その名はガメラ。
これが4人の「怪獣の夏」の始まりだった。
次々と現れる怪獣。傷つきながらも戦うガメラ。
そして少年たちは伝説を目撃する。

Boco aka Boko (VA: Hisako Kanemoto)

He has a kind personality and doesn't abandon others. However, he is the most unreliable person around him and causes many worries. He lives alone with his mother, who is a copywriter. His real name is Hiroki Wada. He is 11 years old.

Joe (VA: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)

He has a caring, brotherly disposition and is looked up to by those around him because of his skill in fighting. He's been friends with Boco since kindergarten. He lives with his father in an apartment complex. His real name is Satoru Matsuda. He is 12 years old.

面倒見がいい兄貴肌で、ケンカも強く、周囲から一目置かれている。小学校１年の時からボコと友達。父親と団地で２人ぐらし。本名は松田了。12歳。

Junichi (VA: Aki Toyosaki)

An otaku who loves science fiction, military, and the occult, he buys every issue of Mu magazine without fail. Though he feels out of place in class, he doesn't mind. His real name is Jun Ishihara. He is 12 years old.
