    Comscore has announced the official North American and Global box office estimates for the 4th of July weekend, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services. As the trusted official standard for real-time worldwide box office reporting, Comscore provides the only theater-level reporting in the world. Customers are able to analyze admissions and gross results around the world using Comscore's suite of products.

    Comscore has also provided SciFi Japan with the latest international box office numbers for GODZILLA VS. KONG. While the film's domestic run is winding down, GvsK just opened this past weekend in Japan and Germany, taking the top spot in both countries.  In Japan it generated a strong ¥518.9 ($5.8m) while Germany saw an excellent €1.1m ($1.3m) take. The movie's Japanese box office includes $800K ifrom IMAX screenings, pushing the IMAX global cume to $36.5M. 

    GODZILLA VS. KONG's total international cume now stands at $346.0m and the global cume is now $446.6m, with the international market breakdown as follows...

    Notable North American Openers:

    Universal’s release of DreamWorks Animation’s THE BOSS BABY: FAMILY BUSINESS had a terrific opening in 3,644 North American theaters this weekend grossing an updated $16.040 million over 3 days (FSS) and $20.030 million over the 4-day weekend. 

    Universal’s release of Blumhouse’s THE FOREVER PURGE had a solid debut this weekend in 3,051 North American theaters grossing an updated $12.480 million over 3 days (FSS) and an updated $15.660 million over the 4-day weekend. 

    A24’s ZOLA launched into theaters this 4th of July weekend grossing an impressive $1.23M for the 3-day FSS portion of the weekend, an estimated $1,652,500 for FSSM and has earned $2,027,252 through Sunday and will earn a projected $2,449,752 through Monday since its Wednesday debut. Premiering to raves back in Sundance 2020, Janicza Bravo’s stylish and audacious indie has been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike.  

    Searchlight opened SUMMER OF SOUL (...OR, WHEN THE REVOLUTION COULD NOT BE TELEVISED) in 752 locations to $650k for FSS and a PTA of $864. The film is a feature documentary about the legendary 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival which celebrated African American music and culture and promoted Black pride and unity. 

     

    Top Films in North America:

    In the top spot, Universal’s FAST 9 in its second weekend domestically grossed an updated $22.860 million over 3 days and $30.120 million over the 4-day weekend bringing the total domestic cume to $117.104 million through Sunday and $123.224 million through Monday.  

    Still going strong in its sixth weekend, Paramount’s A QUIET PLACE PART II takes the fourth spot with an updated $4.075M for 3-day and $5.220M for FSSM in 2,826 locations for a North American cume through Sunday of $144.437M and a cume of $145.432M through Monday.  

    Rounding out the Top 5, Lionsgate’s THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD now in its third weekend took in an updated $3.006M for 3-day and $3.9M for FSSM in 2,582 locations for a North American cume through Sunday of $31.378M and a cume through Monday of $32.278M. 

     

    Notable Holdovers in North America:

    Disney’s CRUELLA now in weekend six earned $2.556M for 3-days and an updated $3.14M for FSSM in 2,380 locations for a North American cume to date of $76.6M through Sunday and $77.184M through Monday. The origin story of one of the most famous movie villains in film history stars Emma Stone as the titular character and features an all-star cast.  

    Sony’s PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY has an updated 3-day holiday weekend total of $2.105 million ($2.850 million for the four-day), bringing the domestic cume to $34.416M through Sunday and $35.016 million through Monday. 

    Warner Bros.’ THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT now in its fifth weekend took in an updated $1.26M for 3-days and $1.540M for FSSM in 1,716 locations for a North American cume through Monday of $62.476M. Vera Farmiga & Patrick Wilson star once again as Ed and Lorraine Warren as they become involved with one of the most sensational cases from their files.  

    Warner Bros.’ IN THE HEIGHTS now in its fourth weekend earned an updated $1.185 million for 3-days and a projected $1.535M for FSSM in 1,405 locations for a N. Am. cume through Sunday of $26.887M and a cume through Monday of $27.147M.The creator of “Hamilton” and the director of CRAZY RICH ASIANS team up for this PG13 musical.  

    IFC’s WEREWOLVES WITHIN in 209 theaters in its second week of release, the film grossed an estimated 3-day gross of $115,250 and an estimated 4-day gross of $136,750.  

    SPC’s I CARRY YOU WITH ME now in weekend 2 earned $23,117 on 24 screens (last week it was on 4 screens), a per screen average of 963 and a cume of $46,667.The R-rated drama stars Armando Espitia, Christian Vázquez, Michelle Rodríguez, Arcelia Ramirez, Angeles Cruz, Raul Briones, Michelle Gonzalez and is directed by Heidi Ewing. 

     

     

    Notable International Performers:

    Universal Pictures’ FAST 9 will cross $500 million WW on Monday, making it the only Hollywood title to do this since 2019. F9 adds five new markets this weekend including Spain and Singapore for a total weekend estimate of $23.8 million from 50 territories in release, for an International cume of $374 million and pushing the global grosses past $491 million thru Sunday. 

    Sony Pictures International’s release of Columbia Pictures’ PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY took in $9.2 million from 15,700+ screens in 37 markets for a cume of $92.1 million. France led all new markets with $2.1 million (including previews).Germany opened to $1 million (including previews) in a newly reopened market.  

    Paramount’s A QUIET PLACE PART II grossed $6.3M from 50 markets.The international cume sits at $122.5M. The markets that have released to date represent 87% of the international rollout. In like for like markets, the overall cume result is 10% ahead of A QUIET PLACE PART.

    THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT grossed an estimated $6.0m this weekend from 64 markets representing another excellent drop of just -37%. This takes the international cume to date to $111.4m and the worldwide total is currently $173.7m.  

    Universal’s THE FOREVER PURGE began its international rollout in 22 markets this weekend including Mexico and Russia.The international cume for the weekend is $3.6 million for a worldwide total of $16.315 million. 

    Disney’s release of Pixar’s LUCA now in week 3 is in 13 international territories earning $3.6M this weekend for a cume to date of $17.4M. 

    Warner Bros.’ IN THE HEIGHTS produced an estimated $1.7m from 26 markets bringing overseas running cume to $8.7m and the worldwide tally is currently $35.6m. 

    Universal’s THE BOSS BABY: FAMILY BUSINESS starts its international rollout in eight markets this weekend across the Middle East and Ukraine and will continue its international rollout throughout the summer.The estimated international weekend in 8 territories is $1.502 million. 

    Warner Bros.’ GODZILLA VS. KONG debuted in Germany this weekend generating an excellent €1.1m ($1.3m) and ranking a solid #1.The total international cume now stands at $346.0m and the global cume is now $446.6m. 

     

    ■ IMAX Highlights (courtesy of IMAX):

    Universal’s FAST 9 to reach $35M in IMAX global box office on Monday.  

    Universal’s FAST 9 earns an estimated global three-day box office of $2.2M and a four-day box office of $2.6M through Monday.  The IMAX Domestic market contributing another $2.1M over the four-day holiday weekend, lifting the IMAX Domestic cume to $9.1M. Select International markets contribute $500K to the four-day weekend total, bringing the IMAX global cume to $35M, which includes $20.1M from China. 

    A pair of Chinese local titles, Tencent’s 1921 and Enlight’s THE PIONEER, deliver $1.5M, with $1.3M of the total coming from 1921.  

    Warner Bros./Legendary’s GODZILLA VS. KONG opens to $800K in Japan, pushing the IMAX global cume to $36.5M. 

    This week Disney/Marvel’s long anticipated BLACK WIDOW opens on 785 IMAX screens in 77 markets.
