In the spring of 2016, the Doraemon anime film franchise celebrated its 35th anniversary with 36TH DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA AND THE BIRTH OF JAPAN 2016 (??????? ??????????, Eiga Doraemon Shin • Nobita no Nihon Tanjo). Based on the manga created by Fujiko Fujio (Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko), the film series debuted in 1980 with a new movie released annually. The movies have become box office smashes, with 2015`s DORAEMON: NOBITA AND THE SPACE HEROES (??????? ???????????, Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Supeesu Hiiroozu) selling a record 3.47 million tickets for a take of ¥3.89 billion (approximately $37 million US). The anniversary entry is a remake of the 10th film in the series, DORAEMON: NOBITA AND THE BIRTH OF JAPAN (????? ????????, Doraemon Nobita no Nihon Tanjo, 1989). The new film was written and directed by Doraemon series veteran Shinnosuke Yakuwa, who had previously helmed DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA IN THE NEW HAUNTS OF EVIL PEKO AND THE FIVE EXPLORERS (??????? ?????????????5??????, Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Daimakyo ~Peko to 5-nin no Tankentai~, 2014). NOBITA AND THE BIRTH OF JAPAN 2016 was another box office hit. The film earned ¥4.85 billion ($46.3 million US) in Japan, making it the highest grossing traditionally animated Doraemon movie to date. STORY "I`ve had enough! I`m running away from home!!" Nobita comes up with the idea of running away because he is always being scolded at home and at school. Additionally, Gian, Shizuka, and Suneo all have their own reasons for running away. But, in present-day Japan, there is no place they can go that isn`t already owned by someone else, so they decided to go into the ancient past instead. Together with Doraemon, they all travel through time to the Japan of 70,000 years ago. A great adventure -- and the ultimate exodus from home -- begins!!
