Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Gosho Aoyama's original manga series, has already reached 104 volumes (with a cumulative total of more than 270 million copies sold worldwide!) The popularity of the DETECTIVE CONAN series has proven to be at an all-time high, with the TV anime series having aired more than 1,000 times.
The 26th movie, DETECTIVE CONAN: BLACK IRON SUBMARINE (名探偵コナン 黒鉄(くろがね)の魚影(サブマリン), Meitantei Konan Kurogane (Kurogane) no Gyoei (Sabumarin)), released last April and exceeded 13.88 billion yen in box office revenue, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise. Furthermore, the cumulative box-office revenue of all 26 theatrical films has surpassed 118 billion yen. With such immense profits, DETECTIVE CONAN: THE MILLION DOLLAR PENTAGRAM will have a lot to live up to when it releases in Japan nationwide this coming Friday.
Story
A notice from Kaito Kid (aka Kid the Phantom Thief) has arrived at the storage room of the Atoe Zaibatsu in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Kid's target this time is a Japanese sword connected to Toshizo Hijikata, the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi who lived during the end of the Edo period. Why is Kid, who is pursuing the Big Jewel, after this sword?
Heiji Hattori, a great detective from the West, along with Conan and his friends are also visiting Hakodate for a kendo tournament. On the day of the crime notice, Heiji sees through Kid's disguise and corners him!
At the same time, a body is found in the Hakodate warehouse district with a cross-shaped cut across the chest. The investigation uncovers a Japanese-American man known as the "Merchant of Death" who operates as an arms dealer throughout Asia. He was looking for a treasure that was said to have been hidden somewhere in Hakodate by the first head of the Akie family, who was deeply involved in the military industry during the war. It is rumored to be a weapon so powerful that it could have completely changed the course of the war for Japan, which was near defeat at the time.
It seems that the treasure and the sword that Kid is aiming for are related, and as Kid aims for the sword, the shadow of a mysterious "swordsman" approaches...
The "truth" hidden in the sword cuts through the dark night and now leads us under the moon.
The battle for the mystery treasure that will divide the world begins here!
