This November the DigiDestined are back in theaters with a brand new movie.  Toei Animation and Fathom Events revealed today details for the U.S. theatrical release of DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING (デジモンアドベンチャー02 THE BEGINNING, Dejimon Adobenchā 02 THE BEGINNING, 2023) as a two-day event on November 8 & 9. It is present day and the chosen children from DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 have returned with all new adventures — but now they’re 20 year old young adults! Fans are invited to join the fun and can watch the movie in 750 theaters across the United States through Fathom Events. DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING will be presented nightly at 7:00 pm local time in both English dub (November 8) and Japanese with English subtitles (November 9). Check local listings.

As an exclusive experience only available in theaters, moviegoers will be treated to a brief introduction to the film by its director, Tomohisa Taguchi. Plus, as an incredibly special bonus, the first 50 guests to arrive at each night’s screening will receive a complimentary Digimon Card Game Tamer Party Pack -THE BEGINNING-  ver. 2.0, which includes 3 out of 14 possible cards from the new Digimon Card Game deck commemorating the film (first come, first served). Lucky recipients will be among the first fans in the U.S. to own these new DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING themed cards before they are released to the general public in December.

Tickets for the DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING are available for advance purchase now at  FathomEvents.com/Digimon02, which also provides a complete list of theater locations (subject to change). Tickets are also currently available via participating theater box offices.

Based on the Digital Monster (Digimon) virtual pet toy created in 1997, the Digimon franchise encompasses numerous films and TV series as well as video games, card games, comics, light novels and drama CDs.  The original TV series DIGIMON ADVENTURE premiered in 1999 and was followed in 2000 by the sequel DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 which featured a different cast of children from the first series. The new movie DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING is a contemporary continuation of the DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 TV series but with the original DigiDestined children now as 20 year old young adults. DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02 THE BEGINNING is directed by Tomohisa Taguchi and written by Akatsuki Yamatoya together with production by Toei Animation — the same team behind the most recent film DIGIMON ADVENTURE LAST EVOLUTION KIZUNA released in 2020.

Film Synopsis

It’s 2012, and ten years have passed since the adventure in the Digital World. Daisuke Motomiya is now twenty, and he and the rest of the DigiDestined seem to be changing bit by bit in terms of appearance and lifestyle. Then one day, a giant Digitama suddenly appears in the sky over Tokyo Tower. Daisuke and the others encounter a mysterious young man named Lui Ohwada, who informs them that he’s the first ever DigiDestined in the world…
