GHOST IN THE SHELL: SAC_2045 (攻殻機動隊 SAC_2045, Kōkaku Kidōtai SAC_2045), the latest entry in the classic sci-fi series GHOST IN THE SHELL, is scheduled to release worldwide (except China) on Netflix on April 23, 2020.
Created by Masamune Shirow, the sequel of much acclaimed GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX (攻殻機動隊 STAND ALONE COMPLEX, Kōkaku Kidōtai Sutando Arōn Conpurekkusu, 2002-05) series has come back as a full 3DCG anime series. Directors Kenji Kamiyama (GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX series), Shinji Aramaki (APPLESEED series) and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS will collaborate once again following the Netflix anime ULTRAMAN (ウルトラマン, Urutoraman, 2019-20). This is the first GHOST IN THE SHELL series to be brought to fans with a double director. The original Japanese cast of GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX, including Atsuko Tanaka, Akio Otsuka, and Koichi Yamadera, are all returning.
In 2045, the world has been thrown into a state of systematic “sustainable war,” but the threat of human extinction at the hands of AI hasn’t yet pervaded the public consciousness. Former members of Public Security Section 9, including full-body cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi, are working as hired mercenaries when mysterious beings known as “post humans” begin to emerge. The world’s superpowers are trying to come to grips with the threat, and so Section 9 is reorganized.
