Experience the very first chapter of the exciting X-Men saga through the eyes of a true Marvel legend with X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, an epic adventure that pits Wolverine and all mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. Spanning over 150 years, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE chronicles Logan`s tortured past… from conflicts with his half brother Victor Creed – aka Sabretooth, his membership in Team X, his infamous adamantium rebirth and the total memory loss that ultimately fuels his angry quest. On September 15th, Fox Home Entertainment released the box office hit X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE on DVD and Blu-ray. The film is the fourth in the X-MEN movie series based on Marvel Comics` hugely popular comic book franchise, and the first is a planned series of films detailing the backstories for various X-Men characters. For DVD, Fox has issued X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE in both a single-disc edition (SRP $29.98 U.S./$43.48 Canada) and a 2-Disc Special Edition ($34.98 U.S./$45.98 Canada) with bonus material including audio commentary by director Gavin Hood (TSOTSI) and producers Lauren Shuler Donner (X-MEN, CONSTANTINE) and Ralph Winter (FANTASTIC FOUR), deleted and alternate scenes, and behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The X-MEN movie series peaked with X2: X-MEN UNITED (2003) before stumbling with the misfire, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (2006). While X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE doesn`t match the quality of the the excellent second film it is a step up from the awkward third installment. Hugh Jackman (THE PRESTIGE) returns to the role that made him an international star. Having played Wolverine four times, Jackman is undeniably linked to character, even serving as a producer on this latest film. Joining Jackman is a solid supporting cast that includes Liev Schreiber (the SCREAM series, RKO 281) as Victor Creed/Sabretooth, Ryan Reynolds (VAN WILDER, BLADE TRINITY) as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Taylor Kitsch (SNAKES ON A PLANE) as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, Lynn Collins as Kayla Silverfox, Dominic Monaghan (THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy) as Chris Bradley/Bolt, Will.i.Am (Black Eyed Peas) as John Wraith, Daniel Henney as Agent Zero, Kevin Durand (DARK ANGEL) as Fred Dukes/Blob, and Danny Huston (30 DAYS OF NIGHT) as X2 villain Colonel William Stryker. The film also features Tim Pocock as the young Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) and a cameo by Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Single-Disc DVD presents the film in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with English 5.1 Dolby Surround and both French and Spanish Dolby Surround. There are also English, French, and Spanish subtitle options. The only extra is “Wolverine Unleashed: The Complete Origins”, a 12 minute featurette about the making of the film. The short running time doesn`t allow for much in-depth detail about the production but does give insight into Jackman, Hood, and the producers` take on the Wolverine character.

The X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Two-Disc Special Edition has much more to offer Wolverine fans. The film presentation is identical to the single disc edition but there is also a nice selection of bonus material. Special features include: • Commentary by Director Gavin Hood • Commentary by Producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter • The Roots of Wolverine: A Conversation with X-Men creators Stan Lee and Len Wein: This is an entertaining 16 minute discussion between Stan Lee (who co-created the X-Men with the late Jack Kirby) and Len Wein (who created Wolverine and later brought him into the X-Men comics). • “Wolverine Unleashed: The Complete Origins” featurette • Deleted and Alternate Scenes: Three scenes with optional commentary by director Gavin Hood... 8 year old Storm in Africa, Sabretooth preparing to interrogate Blob, and a long sequence where Wolverine agrees to have his memory erased by Stryker. • Alternate Tag Scene: The post-end credits scene with Logan drinking at a bar in Japan. The Deadpool tag scene is also included at the end of the film. Running time is 42 seconds. • Digital Copy of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Both the single and 2-disc editions include previews for other Fox Home Entertainment titles plus an Anti-Smoking PSA.
