Beginning in Spring 2012, the classic anime SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (???????, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, 1974-1975) story was retold in SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO 2199 (???????????, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199). The new series was first shown in Japan as seven theatrical films, followed by DVD and Blu-ray releases, then broadcast as twenty-six episodes on the MBS/TBS network from April to September 2013. Voyager Entertainment USA, the company which holds the copyright to STAR BLAZERS -- the Americanized version of SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO -- is now marketing the new series internationally as STAR BLAZERS 2199. Voyager will also be releasing the anime on Blu-ray and DVD in North America, with the twenty-six episodes split over six volumes. STAR BLAZERS 2199 Volume 1, containing Episodes 1-4, will go on sale February 27th. The year is 2199. Mother Earth is on the verge of breathing her last. Earth has been rendered a dead world by meteor bombs launched by Gamilas, a mysterious interstellar state. The time left to humanity, which has fled into underground cities, is a mere year. Mankind`s final hope is the Yamato, which rests off of Kyushu`s Cape Bonomisaki -- the Space Battleship Yamato!
