Asahi Shimbun Publishing will release the Japanese picture book Ah Godzilla (あっゴジラ, Atsu Gojira) on Monday, April 7. It was written and illustrated by the artist Qrais as part of the "GODZILLA THE ART" project, a series of events and merchandising that kicked off in April 2023 to offer different interpretations of Godzilla by artists in japan and abroad.

One day, a Godzilla appears out of the ocean.
Whenever he has free time, he travels to Japan and when he sees a train, and wants to bite it. He is the "King of the Monsters", but he looks and behaves differently than usual. Is he really Godzilla?
This is a picture book by the popular artist Qrais, depicting the daily life of a slightly surreal and funny Godzilla, for the 70th anniversary of Godzilla's birth. Please enjoy the world of “Godzilla and Me” (ぼくとゴジラ, Boku to Gojira) as drawn by Qrais.

Qrais (Yusuke Sakamoto) was born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1985. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University and completed its graduate school. After working at a video production company, he is now a manga artist, artist, picture book author, and animation artist. In 2016, he won the Excellence Award at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. His many works include picture books such as Ninjinjin (にんげんじん), which won the MOE Picture Book Store Award 2023, the Bomberman (ボンバーボン, Bonbābon) series, the Don Usa (ドン・ウサ) series, There Are Only Deer (鹿しかいない, Shika Shika Inai), and Abare Neko (あばれネコ), as well as manga such as Neko no Hi (ネコノヒー), Suki Usagi (スキウサギ), Suki Nezumi (スキネズミ) and Hitorigoto (ひとり事, Hitori Koto).

To commemorate the release of the picture book, an autograph session will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at the "Godzilla 70th Anniversary Godzilla The Art Exhibition" (ゴジラ生誕70周年記念 ゴジラ・THE・アート展, Gojira Seitan 70 Sshūnenkinen Gojira THE Āto-ten) sponsored by Asahi Shimbun, PARCO, and Toho. Fans who want their book signed should purchase an exhibition ticket with an autograph ticket and bring your copy of Ah Godzilla to the event.* Tickets for the exhibition with a ticket for the autograph session will be on sale from 10:00 a.m. JST on Wednesday, March 5, at Asobuyu! The sale will end when the limited number of tickets have be purchased.

■ “Godzilla The Art Exhibition” Details
Godzilla celebrated his 70th anniversary in 2024. A global icon since his first theatrical release in 1954, Godzilla has shown the world various, ever-changing expressions over the past 7 decades with a total of 38 films produced and released, including 30 domestic films, 3 animated films, and 5 Hollywood versions. These depictions are not the same, and their appearance and concept are constantly changing with the times.
This exhibition is a large-scale exhibition of Godzilla through contemporary art, that brings together new works by domestic and international artists active in a variety of genres who have faced, thought about, and created Godzilla. Please come to the venue to see how the artists interpret "Godzilla". In addition, you can explore the charm of Godzilla through a diorama that combines Godzilla and art, which can only be seen at this exhibition, and also a special video created for this exhibition.
