    Toho Co., Ltd. has provided press materials for the Japanese release of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (?????????????????, Gojira Kingu Obu Monsut?zu). They will open the film in Japan on Friday, May 31; the same day as the international release from Warner Bros. Pictures, and the Chinese launch from Legendary East. INTRODUCTION

    The King awakens. The end of the world begins. 2014: "Resurrection" -- Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA 2016: “Resurgence” -- Toho`s SHIN GODZILLA 2019: Godzilla "Awakens"... A national icon that was "born" in Japan in 1954, Godzilla has continuously evolved over more than 30 feature films that have been viewed by an audience of over 100 million people in Japan alone. Godzilla, one of the unique characters in the world, celebrates his 65th anniversary in 2019. In 2014, the Hollywood version of GODZILLA, which “resurrected” the monster for the first time in 10 years, opened in first place at the worldwide box office and earned ¥53 billion during its theatrical run. It was also a major hit in Japan, earning ¥3.2 billion domestically. Then, in 2016, SHIN GODZILLA (??????, Shin Gojira), which presented a completely new Godzilla produced by Japan, was screened in more than 100 countries around the world, took in a series high of ¥8.25 billion in Japan, and sparked a social phenomenon. Now, in 2019, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, a Hollywood production starring Japan`s greatest monster, will again overrun the entire world. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah... all mankind must confront an overwhelming threat beyond human wisdom. How do we face these monsters when they appear?

    STORY Set in the world five years after GODZILLA, the movie portrays the efforts of the crypto-zoological secret military agency Monarch to try to prevent the destruction of the world caused by the revival of the mythical monsters Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. When these ancient living beings of overwhelming power contend for supremacy of the world with Godzilla, humanity’s very existence hangs in the balance.
