Meitetsu Summer Festival in Nagoya Features Zoo Animals, Chibi Godzilla, Godzilla Collectibles and More!

Through August 29th, the Meitetsu Department Store in Nagoya is hosting the "Meitetsu Summer Fest" (めいてつ夏フェス, Meitetsu Natsu Fesu), a summer vacation that has sold more than 5 million copies.event for children and parents alike.

The main theme of the festival is based on Zannen na Ikimono Jiten (ざんねんないきもの事典, "Encyclopedia of All Things Zanena"), a popular children's book series published by Takahashi Shoten that has sold more than 5 million copies. The books offer humorous descriptions of animals and dispell common misconcenceptions about them, so the 7th floor of the Meitetsu Department Store has an exhibit featuring live animals from the Shiratori Animal Park, including a lion cub, stag beetles, pigs, chinchillas, a peacock, pigeons, squirrels, hedgehogs, seahorses, carp, scorpions, guppies, a woolly bear, raccoon dogs, and meerkats. Animal Handling Manager Ryosuke Asakawa will be on hand with explanations of what is "regrettable" about each of them.

There is also a stuffed toy exhibit where stuffed animals of polar bears, elephants, reindeer, American bison, hippos, alpacas, and pandas are on display.

Meitetsu is also offering interactive events where visitors can handle cute chicks and excavate fossils of real ancient shark teeth.

The "Meitetsu Summer Fest" is celebrating the upcoming 70th anniversary of Godzilla with events and limited edition merchandising. The popular Chibi Godzilla will appear "in person" at "Meikids★Land," located on the 4th floor of the Meitetsu Department Store, on Sunday, August 6 and Sunday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Children who attend will receive a "Chibi Godzilla sun visor" as a gift.

Meitetsu is selling exclusive Chibi Godzilla products, some with Nagoya-themed designs.

The "Chibi Godzilla Kasaneoshi Stamp Rally in Meitetsu Department Store" (ちびゴジラかさねおし　スタンプラリー in 名鉄百貨店, Chibi Gojira Kasane Oshi 　 Sutanpu Rarī in Meitetsu Hyakkaten) runs through August 29. Players who gets stamps at seven checkpoints in the store (one on each floor) will receive a limited edition Meitetsu Summer Festival commemorative stamp card.

Toho's Godzilla Store, which specializes in Godzilla merchandise, has opened a Pop Up Store on the first floor of Meitetsu that will run until Tuesday, August 22.

On Saturday, August 12, popular weatherman George Yoshida hosts the talk show "Weather Quiz & Experiments Show by George Yoshida." The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Tomo no Kai Cultural Classroom, located on the 10th floor of the Meitetsu Department Store.

Meitetsu is also running a "Minecraft Limited Time Shop" offering limited edition products based on the hit video game. Through Tuesday, August 15, visitors can purchase MINECRAFT stools, cushions, towels, stationery, and other items.
