Fans in Japan should be sure to tune into FM AICHI (FM Aichi Co., Ltd. Nagoya FM 80.7MHz / Toyohashi FM 81.3MHz) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. JST on Monday, December 30, 2024 as the station will broadcast a special program called TOKUSATSU RADIO DAISAKUSEN! (特撮ラジオ大作戦!, Tokusatsu Rajio Daisakusen!) - the title translates to "Special Effects Radio Mission!" - at that time. The program will be hosted by FM AICHI personality Misaki Kuroe and director Shinji Higuchi, a leading Japanese special effects filmmaker who won the Best Director Award at the Japan Academy Prize for SHIN GODZILLA (シン・ゴジラ, Shin Gojira, 2016). This will be the second annual TOKUSATSU RADIO DAISAKUSEN!, which delves into the topic of special effects for a full hour.
Last year's TOKUSATSU RADIO DAISAKUSEN! looked back on the history of special effects. This year the hosts will talk about the evolution of special effects technology and the possibilities that have expanded along with it, focusing on Godzilla, an indispensable character in Japanese special effects. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the first Godzilla film released in 1954, so the hosts have picked out four films from Godzilla's history that show the progress of special effects technology and will explain the characteristics of each. What kind of movies are these four?
The talk by Director Higuchi, who is even more enthusiastic than he was last year, will also be of interest. This is a radio program that will make not only Godzilla fans, but also listeners who have never seen Godzilla, want to see the movies discussed here!
