A classic love story that spins a tale of "that love" that will stay in your heart forever!

Toei has provided information and pics for their new love story, UNDER THE BIG ONION (大きな玉ねぎの下で, Ōkina Tamanegi no Shita de). The film opens in Japanese cinemas on February 7, 2025.

The movie was inspired by a 1985 song of the same name by the Japanese rock band Bakufu Slump. A popular band in Japan during the 1980s and 90s, Bakufu Slump may be best known to tokusatsu fans in the west for their song "Myth" (神話, Shinwa), the theme song for GAMERA: THE GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE (ガメラ大怪獣空中決戦, Gamera: Daikaijū Kūchū Kessen, 1995).

UNDER THE BIG ONION stars Fuju Kamio (HIGH & LOW THE WORST, Re/MEMBER) and Hiyori Sakurada (TOKYO GHOUL, OUR SECRET DIARY). The film was directed by Shogo Kusano (AIMITAGAI) and written by Izumi Takahashi (KIDS ON THE SLOPE, TOKYO REVENGERS).

The music for the film is composed by Otomo Yoshihide, who has won numerous awards including the Record Award for Best Composition for his music for the television series AMACHAN ((あまちゃん, 2013). The acoustic, heartwarming score gently accompanies the story.

STORY

Writing, waiting, receiving. Every moment was love.

Two people who are in the same place but have never met.

Takeru and Miyu work at "Double," a bar by night and a cafe during the day.

The only thing that connects the "night people" and the "day people" is ta notebook which they use to communicate with each other. At first, it was only for business communication, but gradually, they began to write about their hobbies and worries. Because they had never met, they were able to be honest with each other.

But in fact, the two were acquaintances. Moreover, they did not get along with each other at all. Without knowing each other's true identity, they promised to meet for the first time under the "big onion," the dome atop the Budokan arena.

Meanwhile, on a radio program, a story is told about a love affair with a pen pal from 30 years ago. He promises to meet for the first time at the Budokan with the person he loves, though he does not know her face... Can the two couples meet under the big onion?

The two love stories of 2025 and Heisei intersect, and eventually a miracle awaits...
