In 2011, SciFi Japan reported that Toei Animation had contracted Winckler-Oya Inc. to produce 23 English dubbed feature films from the studio`s classic anime television series like CAPTAIN HARLOCK (??????????????, Uchuu Kaizoku Kyaputen Haarokku, 1978-79), STARZINGER (SF??????????, SF Saiyuuki Sutaajingaa, 1978-79) and FIST OF THE NORTH STAR (????, Hokuto no Ken, 1984-87). The goal of THE TOEI CLASSIC ANIME MOVIE COLLECTION was for Toei to directly offer ready-made English language versions to distributors and mainstream audiences in the United States for television, streaming and home video. Shout! Factory has already released two TOEI CLASSIC ANIME MOVIE titles -- GAIKING: THE MOVIE COLLECTION and STARZINGER: THE MOVIE COLLECTION -- on DVD, with the 2-disc DANGUARD ACE: THE MOVIE COLLECTION scheduled for November 19th. DANGUARD ACE (???? ?????A(???), Wakusei Robo Dangado Eesu, aka PLANET ROBOT DANGUARD ACE) is a classic of Japanese animation, running for 56 episodes from March 6, 1977 – March 26, 1978. Created by artist Leiji Matsumoto (SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, STARZINGER), it was originally featured as part of the FORCE FIVE series broadcast on US television. A new planet named Promete is on the verge of entering our solar system. The World Space Institute tries to reach this new world to tap its resources, but a mysterious malfunction leads to tragic consequences for the brave space pilots and their mission. Years later, the next generation of pilots, including Takuma, the son of an astronaut who disappeared during the first attempt to reach Promete, trains for a new voyage to the mysterious planet. Takuma and his friends are stationed at Jasdam Base, a high-tech facility where construction has begun on Danguard Ace, an incredible transforming robot that Takuma is destined to pilot.
