On August 27th, the complete anime series APTAIN HARLOCK (??????????????, Uchuu Kaizoku Kyaputen Haarokku) will be released on Region 1 DVD by Discotek Media. The series originally ran for 42 episodes from March 14, 1978 to February 13, 1979. In 2977 A.C., the people of Earth indulge in idle, peaceful lives, unaware that an invasion by spaceman called the Mazonese has begun. Only two people have noticed the threat; the famous scientist Dr. Daiba and the great space pirate Captain Harlock. Harlock is feared as a pirate, but is in truth an indomitable youth who loves freedom and adventure most of all. When Dr. Daiba is killed, Harlock decides to defend the Earth by himself and begins the battle against the alien invaders. But Daiba`s son, Tadashi, believes that Harlock is the murderer of his father. He is sent to the pirate`s ship Arcadia to exact his revenge, not realizing he is being used by the Earth government who wants to take control of the pirates.
