Hit Show Premieres on BBC America in August, Region 1 DVD from Warner Bros. in November Source: Warner Bros. Home Video, BBC America Official Sites: Primeval, ITV Primeval View the DVD Trailer The past and present collide in the energetic new sci-fi thriller PRIMEVAL. When evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall – THE STRANGE CASE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES AND ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE, FRANCES TUESDAY, ANNA KARENINA, IT`S ALL ABOUT LOVE) discovers prehistoric creatures alive and well in the present day, the natural world is turned on its head and humanity faces a threat to its very existence.
PRIMEVAL is a science fiction series produced by London-based Impossible Pictures, the award winning team behind WALKING WITH DINOSAURS. The show premiered on the British network ITV on February 10, 2007. A second season followed on January 12, 2008, and a third is now in production for January 2009. In PRIMEVAL, unexplained anomalies are ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages of Earth`s development to roam the modern world. Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster secret, while dealing with savage dinosaurs and other deadly foes. Whether it’s a prehistoric predator Gorgonopsid rampaging through the neighborhood, or a swarm of supersized spiders in the subway, Cutter and his team find themselves with some seriously beastly opponents. Ferocious or endearing, these puzzling creatures all have the same simple fact in common - they don’t belong here. While Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster secret, Cutter also has to deal with a deeply personal dilemma when he discovers that his wife, Helen (Juliet Aubrey - A GOOD MURDER, THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE, MIDDLEMARCH), who disappeared eight years ago, is not dead as he believed, but has been traveling in time. Now she’s back, and can possibly tell him more about the riddle of the anomalies, but is it something she’s willing to share? If not, what does she really want? Why did she come back? Cutter, his research assistant Stephen Hart (James Murray - MARPLE, CUTTING IT), zoologist Abby Maitland (Hannah Spearritt - AGENT CODY BANKS II), and student palaeontologist Connor Temple (Andrew-Lee Potts - I DEAL, TRIAL AND RETRIBUTION, BOUDICA), race to understand what’s happening, while shadowy Government officials James Lester (Ben Miller - THE WORST WEEK OF MY LIFE, JOHNNY ENGLISH) and Claudia Brown (Lucy Brown – SHARPE, WHATEVER LOVE MEANS, NORTH AND SOUTH), insist they have to keep the danger secret from the public. As the past threatens to invade the present and destroy the future, Cutter’s crew faces a life-and-death race against time.
“For the first time since these beasts actually roamed the Earth, it is possible to imagine and show something of their sheer size and impact, and in PRIMEVAL that is what we have set out to do,” say creators Tim Haines (WALKING WITH DINOSAURS) and Adrian Hodges (ROME, THE LOST WORLD). “But, at the same time, we passionately believe that the best special effects in the world mean little unless they are coupled to an exciting and compelling human story." "Our series is as much, or more, about the people who come into contact with our creatures as it is about the beasts themselves. This is a story about all kinds of human emotions – grief, love, laughter, fear and courage – and each of our principal characters has a long journey to go on.” After two successful seasons in the UK, PRIMEVAL is now coming to the United States. It premieres Saturday, August 9, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on the BBC America cable channel and will run through November. On November 4, Warner Bros. Home Video will release the DVD collection PRIMEVAL VOLUME 1: THE COMPLETE SERIES 1 & 2. The 4 disc set will include both Season 1 (6 episodes) and Season 2 (7 episodes) in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. Supplemental features include an audio commentary, the Making of PRIMEVAL, and the behind-the-scenes featurette "Through the Anomaly". The combined running time is 585 minutes. The suggested retail price for PRIMEVAL VOLUME 1 is $49.98.
