New York-Tokyo press release, The Film Society of Lincoln Center Official Site: sky.crawlers.jp Yesterday we reported that the award-winning anime film THE SKY CRAWLERS (Sukai Kurora, 2008) was beginning its US theatrical run with a limited engagement in Los Angeles. Today, the media company New York-Tokyo announced they were partnering with Sony Pictures, Stage 6 Films, Production I.G., and the Film Society of Lincoln Center to present the New York Premiere of THE SKY CRAWLERS. The screenings will also feature a video introduction by director Mamoru Oshii (GHOST IN THE SHELL). From the publicity materials: "We are proud to announce the New York Premiere of Director Mamoru Oshii’s latest film, THE SKY CRAWLERS. Nominated for the Golden Lion and winner of the Future Film Festival’s Digital Award during this year’s Venice Film Festival, THE SKY CRAWLERS is full of Oshii’s intriguing blend of philosophy and science fiction. But his greatest achievement is the brilliantly conceived and executed sequences of aerial combat, creating a vortex that confounds the differences between humans and machines, past and present, life and death. Oshii sees this film as a message to the youth of the world. The visually appealing high quality animation was produced by Production I.G." THE SKY CRAWLERS premieres this Friday, December 12 at 7:00 and 9:30pm, at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center. The theater is located at 165 W. 65th St., between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues on the upper level. Ticket prices are $11 public, $8 senior (62+), and $7 Film Society members & students (with ID). Tickets can be purchased at the theater box office or online.
