Over the years, BAFE has done shows and events based on everything from Godzilla to Ultraman to James Bond, The Beatles, Halloween shows, CREATURE FEATURES tributes, movie nights at San Francisco Giants baseball games and much more. In 2004, BAFE brought GODZILLAFEST to the Castro Theatre in San Francisco to celebrate Godzilla`s 50th anniversary. Screening 20 films in 7 days and bringing in a stellar line up of guests, including Akira Kubo, Hiroshi Koizumi, Russ Tamblyn, Jerry Ito, Ed Keane and Godzilla suit actor Tsutomu Kitagawa. After doing shows at the Castro, Auctions by the Bay in Alameda, the Del Mar in Santa Cruz, the Crest in Sacramento, the Hyatt Cinema in Burlingame, the Cerrito Theater in El Cerrito, the Grand Lake in Oakland and more, for the last year BAFE has been concentrating on building audience awareness of the Bal Theatre in San Leandro, CA. Having done shows there on THE MUNSTERS, THE THREE STOOGES and more, it is time to turn attention back to Godzilla, for the 50th anniversary of arguably the most popular of all the Godzilla films, KING KONG VS. GODZILLA. The festivities take place on June 16, 2012, starting at 6:30pm. Hosted by Balrok from TV20`s CREEPY KOFY MOVIETIME, the show features live music by The Deadlies and special guests SyFy`s "Monsterman" Cleve Hall and Godzilla experts Ed Godziszewski & Steve Ryfle. Not only will KING KONG VS. GODZILLA be up on the big screen, but also 2001`s entry GODZILLA, MOTHRA, KING GHIDORAH GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK, a definite fan favorite. BAFE will also be presenting a special, memorial tribute to Toho Special Effects Designer Yasuyuki Inoue. Mr. Inoue designed some of the most iconic images from Toho`s classic films from 1954 through 1985. Discussing Mr. Inoue’s work via video conference will be Godzilla expert Ed Godziszewski. Also via video conference, Godzilla historian and author Steve Ryfle will discuss the history and relevance of Godzilla and his amazing gallery of foes.

For those not familiar with Steve and Ed, Ed Godziszewski has served as the editor and publisher of Japanese Giants magazine since 1977, and is the author of the acclaimed 1995 book "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Godzilla". As a writer and researcher on Japanese special effects films, Ed has contributed to numerous publications including the Japanese Fantasy Film Journal, Retrovision, and G-Fan. In 1979, he authored the cover story (an overview of the Godzilla series) for the inaugural issue of Fangoria, and was one of the first American fans invited to tour both Toho Studios and Tsuburaya Productions in Japan. In the years since then, Ed has visited Japan numerous times and has met and interviewed many tokusatsu filmmakers. A Japanese documentary crew from NHK returned the favor by interviewing Ed in his home for a 1998 television special about Godzilla. Steve Ryfle is the author of the book "Japan’s Favorite Mon-Star" (ECW Press, 1999), widely considered among the best English-language references on Godzilla. As a film journalist, Steve has written for the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, Virginia Quarterly Review, Japanese Giants, Cinescape, Fangoria, Retrovision,Shock Cinema, blaxpoitation.com, Henshin! Online, Stomp Tokyo, E! Online, and Ifilm.com. He has been a contributing editor and columnist for Creative Screenwriting. In 2004, Steve and Ed co-wrote and produced BRINGING GODZILLA DOWN TO SIZE: The Art of Japanese Special Effects, an original documentary about the creation and evolution of the Japanese FX film. BRINGING GODZILLA DOWN TO SIZE premiered at the American Cinematheque and was released on DVD by Classic Media in 2008. In 2009, they co-produced the extra features for Sony’s ICONS OF SCI-FI: TOHO COLLECTION, a DVD set featuring the Ishiro Honda/Eiji Tsuburaya classics MOTHRA, THE H-MAN, and BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE. Both are currently working on the definitive biography of director Ishiro Honda.

Also on hand for the evening, live and in-person will be monster suit maker, SyFy Channel’s “Monsterman” Cleve Hall! Cleve has been in the prop design game since he was a teenager. Monsters are his specialty, which fits the personality of a man who dresses in all black and drives a hearse. Hall has created masterpieces for countless big budget flicks for Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Warner Bros and Disney, including favorites HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, Syfy orinial movie SHARKTOPUS, ED WOOD and PEE WEE`S BIG ADVENTURE, for which he constructed costumes of Godzilla and King Ghidorah. Hall has also lent his talent to numerous television programs including YO GABBA GABBA, for which he received an Emmy nomination. Additionally, he has worked with rock bands including KISS, creating Gene Simmons` Demon Armor, as well as Insane Clown Posse, Alice Cooper, Tenacious D and DEVO. GODZILLA, in which Kong is swinging Godzilla by the tail. You will definitely want to go home with one of these amazing works of art. Don’t be late for this show! In fact, come early at 6:30pm for a performance by CREEPY KOFY MOVIETIME’s house band, The Deadlies! Get ready for live music and a few giant monster related surprises! The Deadlies are entirely new type of surf band, paying homage to the Ventures, Dick Dale and the Chantays as well as the California Honky-tonk sound of Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam while keeping an under lying presence of the California surf punk scene that brought us the Dickies, Agent Orange and Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs. The Deadlies have two CD`s "Meet the Deadlies" and "A Very Deadlies Christmas" that are available at iTunes and Amazon and all the usual locations. The Deadlies are the house "Cave Band" on CREEPY KOFY MOVIETIME with Balrok and No Name, which airs every Saturday Night at 11PM on KOFY TV 20 in San Francisco and appear frequently on RETRO NIGHT on the same station. And if that wasn`t enough for one night, Kyle Yount will be bringing his KaijuCast to the Bal Theatre to record segments for upcoming podcasts. Fans can voice their love for Godzilla and let the cyber world know what makes Godzilla their favorite fire-breathing radioactive movie star. Kyle Yount began his kaiju love affair as the webmaster for Shrine of Gamera in 1997, followed by Henshin! Online, a Japanese Fantasy website run by August Ragone, Bob Johnson and Keith Aiken. He also created a website called The Shrine of Gamera. In 2004, Kyle put on the “50 Years Of Godzilla Film Festival” in Portland, Oregon at the Hollywoood Theatre. Kyle has now turned his talents to hosting the very first podcast dedicated to “Godzilla and all his rubber suited foes” called Kaijucast. On the show he plays music, provides news, interviews guests, critiques films and discusses everything Godzilla and Godzilla related.
