The Death Note series; the legendary transmedia phenomenon that we all remember. The saga resumes 10 years after the original series concluded... Warner Bros. Pictures Japan and Nippon Television Network have provided information and high-res photos for DEATH NOTE Light up the NEW world (????? Light up the NEW world, Desu Noto Light up the NEW world, 2016), the new sequel to the international hits DEATH NOTE (?????, Desu Noto, 2006) and DEATH NOTE II: THE LAST NAME (??????the Last name, Desu Noto the Last name, 2006). The film will open at the Marunouchi Piccadilly, Shinjuku Piccadilly, and other cinemas across Japan on October 29. INTRODUCTION
In the beginning it was a manga series which sold over 3 million copies domestically. Then it was turned into two movies, released back to back in June and November of 2006, ranking among the highest grossing movies of the year. The 2-movie-package strategy proved so successful it became a template for many movie adaptations of manga. "If your name is written in the notebook, you`ll die" was the catchy concept that intrigued the young generation. The DEATH NOTE movie franchise was so popular across the world it spawned a spinoff, DEATH NOTE: L, change the WorLd (L??????, L no Honto no Himitsu) in 2008. The movie franchise was released in 60 plus countries. The story was told on transmedia platforms such as an animated series, novels, theater production, and a television drama. 10 years later, the transmedia monstrosity remains popular across generations. STORY 10 years have passed since two geniuses fought the battle of intelligence. Light Yagami aka Kira used the Death Note on fugitives to punish them until "L" stopped him at the cost of his own life. Havoc is created when Death puts his Death Note in the mortal world again. The Death Note Task Force, originally set up by police officer Soichiro Yagami, is reinstated. Their office is in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. With Yagami dead, the Task Force is made up of 5 investigators including Tsukuru Mishima (Masahiro Higashide) who is well versed on the Death Note incident, and Touta Matsuda (Sota Aoyama) who is the only one from the original Task Force. Shibuya, Wall Street and Russia are on high alert with Death Note killings taking place. That`s when a world renowned private investigator, Ryuzaki (Sosuke Ikematsu), joins the Task Force. He is regarded as a successor to L and it is him who figures out that there are six Death Notes this time. As the investigation continues, a computer virus called "Kira virus" spreads across the world. The virus comes with a message, "Attention Death Note owners; turn your notebook in to me immediately." If all six Death Notes were possessed by one individual, the person would have the ability to rule the world. A fight ensues between those who wish for the second coming of Kira and those who oppose the evil plan.
