WHO IS KAIBUTSU-KUN?!
He`s the young prince of Monster (Kaibutsu) Land. In order to become King, he visited the human world to prove his worth. The Prince is accompanied by his lovable companions, Dracula, Wolfman, and Franken. The seemingly selfish and short-tempered Prince Kaibutsu-kun is in fact, shy and compassionate. He makes friends in the human world, Utako and Hiroshi. Protecting his human friends from supernatural threat, Kaibutsu-kun`s quest to become King of the Monsters begins!
With protagonist Kaibutsu-kun at the heart of its charming world of monsters, Fujiko Fujio ?`s classic fantasy-comedy manga has continued to grow in popularity over the decades. Kaibutsu-kun was first serialized in Shonen Gaho magazine in 1965. Centered around the wild adventures of a monster prince and his cohorts who come to the human realm, Kaibutsu-kun would become manga maestro Fujiko Fujio ?`s most famous work. Kaibutsu-kun`s sidekicks Dracula, Wolfman and Franken would also become loved by fans. Kaibutsu-kun was adapted into an animated TV series in 1968 and again in 1980, with the hit animated feature KAIBUTSU-KUN: THE DEMON SWORD (???????????, Kaibutsu-kun Demon no Tsurugi) released in 1981. It was then turned into a live action TV series broadcast in 2010 by NTV. With its famously catchy “kai, kai-kai” lyric, the “Yukai Tsukai Kaibutsu-kun” theme song from the 1980 animated series was sung by the character himself in the 2010 TV series, followed by a headline grabbing performance on the 2010 edition of the famed annual New Year`s Eve Red and White Song Battle broadcast. 46 years since the birth of Kaibutsu-kun, it remains a much loved character in the public consciousness.
