Having already established themselves as huge hits on their respective individual theatrical and DVD releases, DEATH NOTE and DEATH NOTE 2: THE LAST NAME, the two live-action movies based on the best-selling manga by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata (Hikaru no Go), are now available together as one complete, four-disc package allowing viewers to experience this phenomenal supernatural thriller as it was meant to be seen. DEATH NOTE begins when brilliant but bored high school student Light Yagami suddenly finds himself holding the power of life and death in his hands in the form of the Death Note, a notebook dropped into the human realm by Ryuk, a rogue Shinigami god of death. When Light discovers that any human whose name is written in the notebook will die within minutes, he embarks on a vigilante campaign to rid the world of evil by killing off criminals one by one. But as the body count mounts, Light`s killing spree attracts the attention of both the police and a mysterious investigator known only as "L", who vows to track down the killer and bring him to justice. Light becomes aware of his new nemesis and soon finds himself involved in a high-stakes battle of wits with L. Meanwhile, Ryuk, amused by the psychological conflict going on between Light and L, is ever on the sidelines watching and waiting…

Having garnered Five Star reviews in The Times supplement "The Knowledge" and SFX Magazine during its UK theatrical run, DEATH NOTE 2: THE LAST NAME, the "endlessly inventive" (Total Film) sequel to DEATH NOTE picks up immediately where the first movie left off and sees the deadly psychological duel between Light and L enter a thrilling new phase. Another God of Death, Rem, has given a second Death Note notebook to a human with whom he has fallen in love. The recipient this time is a teenage TV and pop star, Misa Amane, who also happens to idolise the homicidal vigilante, Kira. Now a Kira herself, Misa accepts an offer from Rem to receive the Eyes of Death, allowing her to know the real name and the future time of death of any person just by looking at them. Meanwhile, Light has made a daring move and convinced his police chief father and L to allow him to join them as part of the task force investigating the original Kira. By finally meeting L, Light believes he has moved one step closer to eliminating his adversary, but he still does not know his real name. Discovering the existence of the second Kira, Light contacts Misa and convinces her to work with him in trying to find out L`s true identity, the one piece of information he needs to end the battle once and for all.
