The independent daikaiju movies REIGO: THE DEEP SEA MONSTER VS. THE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (???????, Shinkaij? Reig?, 2005/2008) and RAIGA: THE MONSTER FROM THE DEEP SEA (?????, Shinkaij? Raiba, 2009) have been acquired for North American distribution by SRS Cinema LLC. Both films were written, produced and directed by comedian and kaiju fan Shinpei Hayashiya, creator of the legendary independent/fan production GAMERA 4: TRUTH (???4 ??, Gamera 4 Shinjitsu, 2003). REIGO is set during World War II, with the battleship Yamato attacked by a gigantic sea monster. RAIGA picks up sixty years after the events of REIGO, as a huge and mysterious creature appears in the Sea of Japan and then rushes toward Tokyo Bay. The casts for the movies feature a number of popular genre stars, including Taiyo SUGIURA (ULTRAMAN COSMOS), Yukijiro Hotaru (Gamera Trilogy, GMK) and Susumu Kurobe (ULTRAMAN). While details are still being finalized, SRS Cinema is tentatively planning to bring REIGO out on DVD in November/December 2019 with RAIGA to follow by summer 2020. Blu-Ray and VOD releases are also in the works, as well as screenings at festivals and conventions. Based on sales and fan support, SRS Cinema intends to acquire more obscure and never-before-released kaiju films.
