The partnership between Toho Co. Ltd., NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (???????????, Shin Seiki Evangerion) creator Hideaki Anno, and Anno`s EVANGELION collaborator, Shinji Higuchi, has proven to be a tremendous success. Anno and Higuchi co-directed Toho`s SHIN GODZILLA (??????, Shin Gojira), which became the highest grossing live-action Japanese film of 2016 and also topped the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize with seven awards, including wins for Best Picture and Best Director. One of the tie-ins for SHIN GODZILLA is the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" line; a merchandising and marketing campaign from Toho and Anno`s Khara Inc. with products from multiple licensees. In early 2017, the toy and collectible companies X-Plus and Bandai released a pair of 30cm figures that combined aspects of the King of the Monsters with those of the anime mecha. A third "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" figure has been announced for July 2017. But, unlike the first two entries, the new figure is based on iconic human (or humanoid) characters from both franchises... Eva Unit-00 pilot Rei Ayanami and the X Alien famously played by Kumi Mizuno in the Godzilla classic MONSTER ZERO aka INVASION OF ASTRO MONSTER (?????, Kaiju Daisenso, 1965). This fusion figure features Rei`s characteristic blue hair and interface headset, and is dressed in the black & grey X Alien uniform. A ray gun and removable visor are also included.
