See 11 Toho Classics Plus GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS With The Film`s Director, Michael Dougherty! Source: Bay Area Film Events press release Official Site: bayareafilmevents.com/shows
Fifteen years ago Bay Area Film Events put on its first Godzillafest at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. 22 films over 7 days with an array of guests including Hiroshi Koizumi, Akira Kubo, Tsutomu Kitagawa, Jerry Ito, Russ Tamblyn and Ed Keane. Flash forward 15 years and 35 shows later and Bay Area Film Events is bringing back Godzillafest! Bay Area Film Events, CinemaSF and 3Fish Studios are coming together to bring a huge Godzilla event to the Historic Balboa Theater in San Francisco. Taking place over a three day weekend, Godzilla stomps onto the big screen in twelve movies on both screens of the Balboa. The lineup includes classic films that have not been seen in theaters since Bay Area Film Events presented the very first Godzillafest at the Castro Theater in 2004. The weekend kicks off with a very rare evening on Friday August 23rd. Fans can pick between two screens. Theater 1 will recreate the original 1971 double-feature of MONSTER ZERO and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS. Both films will be presented in English as they originally were for this amazing drive-in flashback. Theater 2 will have a special presentation of FRANKENSTEIN VS. BARAGON (aka FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD) followed by its sequel, WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS. Both films will be subtitled so all the connections between the two, eliminated in the dubbed versions, will be back for fans to follow. The special guest for this event is Michael Dougherty, writer/director of the newest Godzilla adventure, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. Michael will be doing a special presentation on Saturday night as his film is paired with DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. He will also be around the entire weekend to talk to fans and share his experiences making the 2019 movie.
Along with Michael Dougherty will be a lobby full of collectible, toy and art vendors. Artists include Nick Shev, Gaz Gretsky, Lenny Romero and Larry Quach. Toy vendors will be Kevin deAntonio of Kong`s Kave of Collectibles and James Osborne of Vinyl Kaiju Legion. Friday night only, we have a special X-Plus table with representatives from the company selling figures. They will also be donating a 25cm Mechagodzilla to the weekend`s prize giveaway. As the weekend goes on, both screens will be offering Godzilla’s original movies in glorious TohoScope, all of which will have Godzilla fans leaping out of their seats. See below for the full schedule. Tickets are available for day and weekend passes. Single movie tickets will be available at the door. A 3-day Weekend Pass will get purchasers a special lanyard, button and commemorative silk-screened poster by 3Fish Studios. A trifold program will be available to all attendees while supplies last and everyone will have a chance to win some amazing prizes throughout the weekend. Godzillafest runs all weekend long at the Balboa Theater. Ticket information, a full film schedule and additional details are available at bayareafilmevents.com/shows. There is nothing like seeing classic films on the big screen. It’s not just a movie, it’s an event. Balboa Theater 3630 Balboa St San Francisco, CA 94121
