Author: Keith Aiken Source: Media Blasters, Inc. Special Thanks to Carl Morano and Andres A. Perez Over the past week there has been a good deal of confusion regarding Media Blasters` DVD and Blu-ray release of the Godzilla film DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (?????, Kaiju Soshingeki, 1968). Based on our talks with reps from Media Blasters, we`ll try to separate the facts from the secondhand stories and oddball claims to hopefully give Godzilla fans a better idea of where things stand with this title. In June, Media Blasters first mentioned a tentative release date of October 25th for DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. Two months later, the company`s first DAM press release confirmed the Blu-ray and DVD release date and also listed a November 8th release for the Soundtrack CD. Despite rumors that DESTROY ALL MONSTERS would be delayed or that the DVD would not be sold until weeks after the Blu-ray edition streeted, Media Blasters never changed their scheduled release date.
The materials for the DVD were delivered to the pressing facility on time and from there the manufactured discs were sent to Media Blasters` distributor, Allegro Media Group, in Oregon. Allegro began shipping the DVDs to retailers the week before the on sale date. Production of the Blu-ray did run a few days behind schedule, with the discs shipping from Allegro starting October 24th and retailers receiving their stock a few days later. The Soundtrack CD has also been pressed and shipped. All three discs were sold at the Media Blasters booth during this past weekend`s Chiller Theatre Expo in New Jersey. Following fan inquiries, Media Blasters checked with both their manufacturer and distributor and neither has reported any problems with the production or shipping of the discs. With smaller labels such as Media Blasters, new releases may not be available from all retailers on the exact same date, and it appears that some retailers chose to hedge their bets and set the release of the DESTROY ALL MONSTERS Blu-ray and DVD on November 8th, the same date as the Soundtrack CD. The online retailer Right Stuff stuck with Media Blasters` announced date, and their customers began receiving the DVD on October 25th. They also now have the Blu-ray in stock and available, with the Soundtrack CD set for November 8. Amazon.com has DESTROY ALL MONSTERS lined up for November 8th. Amazon customers can now pre-order the DVD, the Blu-ray and the Soundtrack CD. The electronics retail chain Best Buy is not carrying DESTROY ALL MONSTERS in-store, but is offering all three discs online at bestbuy.com. Best Buy lists an on sale date of November 8th for the DVD, the Blu-ray and the Soundtrack CD. Walmart is not currently offering DESTROY ALL MONSTERS at their retail locations, but a later release in stores is being considered. For now, walmart.com is offering pre-orders on the DVD for November 8. Online retailer Deep Discount has the DVD, the Blu-ray and the Soundtrack CD available to order, also for November 8. Fry`s Electronics is not stocking DESTROY ALL MONSTERS in stores, but is offering the DVD online. Fry`s will ship orders by November 10th. FYE (For Your Entertainment) has the DVD, the Blu-ray and the Soundtrack CD listed on their website for November 8th. The DVD is currently available from some locations in the FYE chain, which includes the Suncoast, Sam Goody and Wherehouse stores. Contact you local stores to confirm if they have copies in stock. Check back with SciFi Japan soon for details and updates on Media Blasters` upcoming release of GODZILLA VS MEGALON. At this time we can report that work on the DVD and Blu-ray is on schedule and Media Blasters has not pushed back the previously announced on sale date of November 29th.
