Toei has provided information and pics for their new fast-paced action film, 11 REBELS (十一人の賊軍, Jū ichi-ri no zokugun), which opened in Japanese cinemas on November 1st. Distributor Well Go USA has licensed the North American rights and plan to release the movie in 2025.

The intense work is based on an unproduced screenplay written in 1964 by the late Kazuo Kasahara, the famous screenwriter who created many masterpieces including the acclaimed BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY yakuza film series.

11 REBELS is drected by Kazuya Shiraish, whose 2013 adaptation of the nonfiction bestseller, THE DEVIL'S PATHwas nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and several other awards at the 37th Japan Academy Film Prize. He won the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Director for BIRDS WITHOUT NAMES in 2017 and for THE BLOOD OF WOLVES in 2018.

11 REBELS stars Takayuki Yamada (13 ASSASSINS, GANTZ) and Taiga Nakano (THE KIRISHIMA THING) as the lead actors. They are supported by a cast of up-and-coming actors, all of whom are brimming with individuality in the roles.

STORY

The historical betrayal by the Shibata domain of Niigata happened in the shadows of the Boshin War, the fiercest war in Japanese history. An 11-member suicide squad takes on a hopeless fortress defense mission. When the interests of the Shibata domain, the old shogunate and the new government collide, their heroic battle begins! The hell-bent rebels enthrall the audience in this timeless film!
