With the evils we all have to deal with in real life, nothing beats escaping into a fantasy world of movie gorillas, aliens, robots and monsters! This is the world that a brand new documentary from Wyrd Studios, MEN IN SUITS takes us to. In talking to the men and women that have donned rubber and fiberglass costumes over the decades of cinema, MEN IN SUITS shows us the kind of strength, determination and mental toughness it takes to not only move around in heavy, boiling suits, but to also act, emote and perform, bringing emotion to a character who without the actor inside, is just a lifeless mass of materials. It is also amazing to see the advances in suit technology that have taken place from the days of The Creature and early Godzilla films to movies like PREDATOR, ALIEN and PAN’S LABYRINTH. MEN IN SUITS talks to performers such as Doug Jones (HELL BOY, PAN’S LABYRINTH), John Alexander (GORILLAS IN THE MIST), Haruo Nakajima (Godzilla himself) and even Van Snowden (H.R. PUFNSTUFF). There are segments on monsters, robots, even an extensive look at gorilla suits in the movies. Viewers will be surprised to find out some of the movies that have utilized suit acting in this day and age of CGI. The argument can be made that no matter how advanced you get in CG technology, sometimes you just can’t get the proper illusion of weight or mass that you can with a well made suit. In interviews with the actors and the directors that put them through their beastly paces, you get a real sense of the love and admiration they have for practical effects and the way those effects can bring a creature to life. With a crisp 90-minute run time, the documentary moves quickly and covers a lot of ground.
