Source: Source: GKIDS Inc., Universal Studios Home Entertainment Official Site: gkids.com/ocean-waves GKIDS is proud to complete the Studio Ghibli home video library with the special release of the rarely-seen gem OCEAN WAVES (??????, Umi ga Kikoeru, 1993), newly-restored and never before released on home video in North America. A beautifully animated adaptation of Saeko Himuro`s best-selling novel, OCEAN WAVES is the perfect opportunity to prepare for the start of Studio Ghibli Fest 2017! OCEAN WAVES is a subtle, poignant and wonderfully nuanced story of adolescence and teenage isolation. Taku and his best friend Yutaka are headed back to school for what looks like another uneventful year. But they soon find their friendship tested by the arrival of Rikako, a beautiful new transfer student from Tokyo whose attitude vacillates wildly from flirty and flippant to melancholic. When Taku joins Rikako on a trip to Tokyo, the school erupts with rumors, and the three friends are forced to come to terms with their changing relationships. This beautiful, heartfelt teen drama was an early experiment with young animators at the legendary Studio Ghibli (SPIRITED AWAY, MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, THE TALE OF THE PRINCESS KAGUYA), as one of the first studio films not directed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata. Hailed by critics on its recent theatrical release and a New York Times Critics` Pick, the film now comes to Blu-ray and DVD with a host of bonus features. Distributor: Universal Studios Home Entertainment Street Date: April 18, 2017 Run Time: 72 Minutes Rating: PG-13
