Author: Daisuke Ishizuka There are countless superheroes in Japan, and many are "local superheroes" who only protect their home city, town or neighborhood. Since 2014, these local superheroes have gathered once a year for a special live event. The Local Superhero Festival 2017 was held in Chiba with 95 hero teams (more than 350 characters) attending. This was new record of the festival. For two days, the local superheroes performed stage shows, interacted with fans, and posed for photos. Kameider, the guardian of Tokyo`s Kameido area (and a local hero previously featured on SciFi Japan), also joined the Festival this year. Kameider performed onstage show and played games with audiences and other local superheroes. He carried two new items -- a sword and buckle -- both designed by manga artist Kia Asamiya. His masterpiece is Silent Möbius and he was a designer of creatures for KAMEN RIDER FOURZE, but many Tokusatsu fans believe that his best work was the comic version of Gunhed. Local Superhero Festival 2017 was a success and the organizers have decided the festival will return in 2018.
