On October 11th in Canada, MY HERO ACADEMIA: TWO HEROES (??????????? THE MOVIE ???????, Boku no Hiiroo Akademia THE MOVIE ??-ri no H?roo?, 2018) closed out the final day of its North American theatrical run. Buoyed by demand from audiences and exhibitors alike, the film screened for a total of 17 days -- more than three times longer than its original five-day limited release. This first ever, feature film from the global hit anime franchise MY HERO ACADEMIA grossed an astounding $5,768,366 at the box office. In total, the movie’s extended run encompassed 556 theaters across the U.S. and Canada and offered moviegoers both the Japanese language (English subtitles) and English Dub versions of the film. Since debuting at #23 on opening night, MY HERO ACADEMIA: TWO HEROES has catapulted up the list to end its theatrical run as #10 on the Top 10 list of highest grossing domestic anime films of all time -- surpassing THE WIND RISES ($5.2M) by legendary director Hayao Miyazaki. “It’s truly heartwarming to see how much MY HERO ACADEMIA: TWO HEROES resonated with audiences across the U.S. and Canada,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of Funimation. “I’m so thankful to the millions of loyal fans who embraced this incredible franchise from day one, when we first introduced MY HERO ACADEMIA to North America just three years ago. I am excited to see what the future holds for anime’s hottest superheroes.” MY HERO ACADEMIA concludes its third season this weekend on the heels of a record-breaking 2017 as the anime industry’s most awarded series. These accolades included IGN’s “Best of 2017 - Anime of the Year” and “2017 People’s Choice - Anime of the Year” awards, seven top honors at the 2017 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, ComicBook.com’s “2017 Golden Issue Award for Best Shonen Series” and the #1 spot on Anime News Network’s “Best of 2017 Mega Poll” as well as GameSpot’s “Top Ten Anime of 2017.” For more information on the MY HERO ACADEMIA anime series, visit funimation.com/myheroacademia.
