CRIME OR PUNISHMENT?!? (??????, Tsumi Toka Batsu Toka, 2009) is a slapstick comedy, like Kafka’s novel, filled with incongruous nightmares and nonsensical laughter. Script and direction for CRIME OR PUNISHMENT?!? is by Keralino Sandorovich, the maestro of the Japanese theatre world. His flippant Russian-style name is obviously a fake as he is genuinely Japanese. Being a big fan of the great German writer, Kafka, he admits that this film has been influenced by Kafka’s The Castle and The Judgment. He is also an enthusiast for slapstick comedy such as those by Marx brothers and black comedy by Monty Python.
