Doosaboo Film, Inc. announced on January 14, 2009 (Korean date) that principal photography on the disaster film HAEUNDAE has finished. The company also revealed conceptual artwork from the film. HAEUNDAE tells the story of a massive tsunami striking the Korean beach area of Haeundae, a hugely popular tourist attraction and home of the world-famous Pusan International Film Festival. The film is a co-production between Doosaboo Film and Korean film distributor CJ Entertainment, with special effects being created by the Northern California-based movie company Polygon Entertainment. According to the official press release, the final photography took place on December 17, 2008, in San Francisco. It was a scene where the protagonist and his crew were attacked by a large wave while they were fishing in the Indian Ocean. The scene was based on a real-life 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Actors Sol Kyung-gu (as Man-shik, the protagonist), Lee Min-ki (as Hyeong-shik) and Kim In-kwon (as Dong-choon) participated in the shooting in a large outdoor water tank set up as the ocean, accompanied with various equipment such as blue screens and wires. After wrapping, director Youn Je-kyoun expressed his gratitude. "My heart is too full for words. I thank the actors who had to go through such hard work, the American staff and the Korean staff who were in the same boat with me to the last." He also said, "I will aim for perfection with post-production to bring audiences a film that won`t disappoint in the summer of 2009." The conceptual artwork was said to be first revealed last November at the American Film Market. HAEUNDAE will be released in Korea this summer. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For more information on HAEUNDAE, please see the previous coverage here on SciFi Japan:
