Toei has provided information, high-res photos and a trailer from their new action-comedy, SHIPPU RONDO (?????), which opens in Japanese cinemas on November 26th. SHIPPU RONDO is based on the 2013 best-seller of the same name by mystery novelist Keisuke Higashino. The film stars Hiroshi Abe (GODZILLA 2000, TRICK: THE MOVIE, HAPPILY EVER AFTER), who won awards for his performance in THERMAE ROMAE (????????, Terumae Romae, 2012). STORY A top-secret, biological weapon, K-55, is stolen from a university lab. The lab director receives an anonymous email stating: “I hold the entire nation hostage. My ransom is 300,000,000 yen.” The police are not an option, and the time limit is 4 days. Out of the blue, Kazuyuki Kuribayashi (Hiroshi Abe), a lackluster lab researcher finds himself front and center of the crisis. It is up to him to locate the hidden weapon, but he has no clue where to begin. And then the phone rings. The perpetrator of the threat is found... dead! Now it’s a rush to stave off a major national disaster, as the seconds tick away. And just when it seems that all is lost, a clue is revealed among the criminal’s personal effects that points north... to Japan’s largest ski resort. Resting squarely on the shoulders of a slightly incompetent, middle-aged lab rat who can’t ski is the future of the nation!
