The Worst Cops in Japan! Ever since his major film debut with THE DEVIL’S PATH (??, Kyoaku, 2013) starring Takayuki Yamada, swept domestic film awards, director Kazuya Shiraishi has been receiving offers of various film projects. Shiraishi, who is from Hokkaido, has been warming his plans for making TWISTED JUSTICE (?????????, Nihon De Ichiban Warui Yatsura), a film based on the `Inaba Case`, an actual case which occurred in Hokkaido in 2002, and called the biggest scandal in Japan’s police history. Stating, “without making this film, I cannot move ahead to the next level,” Shiraishi once again brings together his team of producers from THE DEVIL’S PATH for this highly eager project. This time sees a buddy movie aspect with Go Ayano’s character teaming up with gangsters called “S” (Spy) in the movie. Shiraishi aims to make a new crime entertainment piece that tops the likes of Martin Scorsese’s GOODFELLAS (1990) and THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) or Kinji Fukasaku’s YAKUZA VS POLICE (???????, Kenkei Tai Soshikibouryoku, 1975). Only June 22nd, TWISTED JUSTICE will have its world premiere as the opening film at the New York Asian Film Festival. Shiraishi and producer Yoshinori Chiba will introduce the movie, while Go Ayano will receive a Screen International Rising Star Award during the festival. STORY Chief investigator Moroboshi, who was squad leader at the Hokkaido Prefectural Police Department’s Community Safety Special Investigation Team, was arrested and convicted for drug and gun possession. It turned out this was not a simple crime, and the trial brought forth scandals of fake investigations and false evidence of gun possession by the Hokkaido Police Department, along with leading to the exposure of the Department’s bribery case. The case is known as the biggest scandal in Japan’s police history.
