SDAFF Theatrical Screening of LINDA LINDA LINDA March 1, San Diego, CA

Source: San Diego Asian Film Foundation The San Diego Asian Film Foundation (SDAFF) begins their quarterly screenings for 2007 with a 35mm print of LINDA LINDA LINDA: Only three days before their high school festival, guitarist Kei (Yuu Kashii), drummer Kyoko (Aki Maeda), and bassist Nozumi (Shiori Sekine) are forced to recruit a new lead vocalist for their band. They choose Korean exchange student Son (Bae Doo-na), though her comprehension of Japanese is a bit rough! Its a race against time as the group struggles to learn three tunes for the festivals rock concert—including a classic 80s punk-pop song by the Japanese group The Blue Hearts called "Linda Linda Linda"… LINDA LINDA LINDA was written and directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita, who recently contributed to Nikkatsus all-star fantasy anthology TEN NIGHTS OF DREAMS (Yume Ju-ya, 2007). Headlining the cast are a trio of popular genre starlets led by Aki Maeda of BATTLE ROYALE (Batoru Rowaiaru, 2000) and BATTLE ROYALE II: REQUIEM (Batoru Rowaiaru II: Chinkonka, 2003). Maeda also had small roles in GAMERA: REVENGE OF IRIS (Gamera 3: Irisu Kakusei, 1999) and GODZILLA, MOTHRA AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK (Gojira, Mosura, Kingughidora: Daikaiju Soshingeki, 2001). Yuu Kashii appeared in LORELEI: THE WITCH OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN (Lorelei, 2005), DEATH NOTE (Desu Noto, 2006), and TEN NIGHTS OF DREAMS. Bae Doo-nas many credits include THE RING VIRUS (1999), BARKING DOGS NEVER BITE (Flandersui Gae, 2000), TAKE CARE OF MY CAT (Goyangileul Butaghae, 2001), SYMPATHY FOR MR VENGEANCE (Boksuneun Naui Geot, 2002), and THE HOST (Gwoemul, 2006). Providing the films score is James Iha, co-founder and former guitarist of the Smashing Pumpkins. LINDA LINDA LINDA will be shown at 7:30pm on Thursday, March 1 at UltraStar Cinemas, Mission Valley at Hazard Center (7510 Hazard Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92108).
