GREAT ADVENTURE IN THE ANTARCTIC KACHI KOCHI is the 37th entry in the film series based on the manga created by Fujiko Fujio (Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko). The movies have become increasingly popular, with the 35th anniversary release, DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA AND THE BIRTH OF JAPAN 2016 (??????? ??????????, Eiga Doraemon Shin • Nobita no Nihon Tanjo, 2016), earning a record ¥4.85 billion ($46.3 million US) at the Japanese box office. The new film is written and directed by Atsushi Takahashi, a veteran animator whose credits include LUPIN THE THIRD: THE WOMAN CALLED FUJIKO MINE (LUPIN the Third ??????????, LUPIN the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna, 2012), SPACE DANDY (?????????, Supeesu Dandi, 2014) and GHOST IN THE SHELL: THE NEW MOVIE (????? ????, Kookaku Kidootai Shin Gekijooban, 2015). Takahashi was an assistant director on Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning SPIRITED AWAY (????????, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, 2001), and made his feature film directorial debut with BLUE EXORCIST THE MOVIE (??? ?????????????, Gekijoo-ban Ao no Futsumashi, 2012). The story of GREAT ADVENTURE IN THE ANTARCTIC KACHI KOCHI incorporates concepts from the "Snowball Earth hypothesis"; the theory that glaciers expanded the poles to the equator, freezing the entire surface of the Earth for long stretches between 2.4 billion to 580 million BC. These spectacular environmental changes brought mass extinctions which resulted in jumps in biological evolution. STORY This friendship will not freeze for 100,000 years. Unable to endure the midsummer heat, Doraemon transports Nobita and his friends to a huge iceberg floating in the South Pacific. While creating an amusement parks with the secret tool "Ice-working Iron" the group finds a mysterious golden ring in the ice. Upon closer examination, they determine that the ring was buried in Antarctica 100,000 years ago... before people could have lived there! Doraemon and friends head to Antarctica looking for the owner of the ring and come across the ruins of a huge city buried in the ice. Using Doraemon`s Time Belt, the group travels back 100,000 years ago and meets the young girl Kara who is connected to the mysterious ring. But now the group must fight for survival as Doraemon faces the crisis of the entire Earth freezing!
