For 40 years, master kaiju illustrator, Yuji Kaida, has amazed fans worldwide with his artwork for books, posters, model kits, CD and home video covers, dioramas and more depicting the likes of Godzilla, Gamera and Ultraman. Today, Kadokawa released a new Kaida illustration as part of their celebration of the worldwide release of their anime series GAMERA -Rebirth- (ガメラ リバース, Gamera Ribāsu) on Netflix.
Comment from Yuji Kaida
At first, I was worried about whether the charm of the monsters could be brought to life in an anime. But when I watched the series, I was captivated by the dynamic actions of the monsters, which were depicted in realistic 3D.
The new designs of the villainous monsters of the Showa era, which were originally made with costumes, is also excellent, making use of their original charm.
In the illustration, I tried to depict the coolness of Gamera that is unique to 3DCG animation, and the dreamlike feast where all the revived villainous monsters gather.
