The film opened in Japan on May 12th, 2012, earning ¥1.5 billion (approximately $19 million US) during its theatrical run. Three different editions of SADAKO 3D will be released on home video. The primary release will be the Curse of Sadako: SADAKO 3D Blu-ray Box Set (???????????, Sadako no Noroi Hako), limited to 4,444 copies (the number 4 is pronounced `shi` in Japanese, making it a homonym of the Japanese word for `death`) .
