Distributor Shochiku Co. has provided SciFi Japan with a preview of their upcoming FREE! -TIMELESS MEDLEY- anime films. Following the pattern of the recent KUROKO’S BASKETBALL movies, the theatrical releases will start with compilations of footage from Kyoto Animation`s FREE! television series mixed with new material, and conclude with an all-new story. The films kick off this Saturday, April 22nd with FREE! -TIMELESS MEDLEY- BONDS (???Free!-Timeless Medley-?, Gekijoo-ban Free!-Timeless Medley- Kizuna). As a young boy, Haruka Nanase loved to be in the water. Now in high school, he encounters his former swimming class friends Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki and Rin Matsuoka, who reignite his passion for the sport. Along with a new classmate, Rei Ryugazaki, they form the Iwatobi High School Swim Club. An unbreakable bond is forged.
Rin Matsuoka and Sosuke Yamazaki take center stage in FREE! -TIMELESS MEDLEY- PROMISE (???Free!-Timeless Medley-??, Gekijoo-ban Free!-Timeless Medley- Yakusoku), opening in Japanese cinemas on July 1st. As Rin pursues his late father`s dream of becoming a world-ranked swimmer he comes into competition with his close friend, Sosuke. Eventually, Rin decides to quit the team and hone his skills in Australia. Returning home for his third year of high school, Rin looks forward to rejoining the team when Sosuke suddenly decides to transfer to another school. The events of the compilation films lead to the all-new finale, FREE! -TAKE YOUR MARKS- (???Free!-Take Your Marks-), to be released this fall. Set in March, four intertwined stories follow the characters as the graduate and step up to the next starting blocks of their lives.
