Tokyo Midtown Hibiya (Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; operator: Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.) will hold HIBIYA MID SUMMER 2024 from Monday, July 22 to Sunday, September 1, 2024, as a summer event to enjoy and cool down in an ecologically-safe way during the hot summer.

HIBIYA MID SUMMER 2024 is an event with the theme of "Summer in Japan" featuring immersive, photographic, and other entertainment elements to cool off and enjoy the hot summer outdoors, fitting for the "Entertainment Town Hibiya."  The main event site, Hibiya Step Plaza, will feature the KAZAGURUMA GARDEN (かざぐるまガーデン,  Kaaguruma Gāden), where approximately 1,000 kazaguruma (Japanese pinwheels), which can be said to be the original scenery of Japanese summer, will be arranged in a dome shape.  Some of the pinwheels used are "eco kazaguruma" made of recycled clear files. Combined with the mist effects inside the dome, this is an ecological "cool share" spot* that will cool you down both physically and visually.

In August, the "Hibiya Oh! MATSURI Stage" will be held, bringing traditional Japanese performing arts and festivals to Hibiya. There will also be a workshop where visitors can make their own "original kazaguruma" out of used clear files. Please enjoy this summer event at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya that combines traditional Japanese content with entertainment and coolness.

    • The original Japanese summer scenery! Feel the coolness of approximately 1,000 colorful pinwheels and mist at KAZAGURUMA GARDEN

The "pinwheel" is a Japanese toy with a long history that is said to have been enjoyed since the Heian period (794-1185), and the sight of the blades spinning in the wind is a visually refreshing sight. This time, approximately 1,000 pinwheels will be in the shape of a dome  at Hibiya Step Plaza! Visitors can feel the coolness of the mist at the entrance and inside the dome. The colorful pinwheels are also recommended as a photo spot for people wearing yukatas (light cotton kimonos). Visitors can enjoy the cool of the evening in a photogenic and entertaining atmosphere. At night, the dome is illuminated to create a fantastic space. In addition, the grand staircase area will be illuminated to echo the pinwheels in the square. Please enjoy the cool of the evening while feeling the breeze on a summer evening.

As part of an initiative to promote waste reduction and recycling, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya collects unused clear files from office tenants and reuses them as "eco kazaguruma".  About 200 "eco kazaguruma," or one-fifth of the total number of the pinwheels displayed, are planned to be used.

    • Traditional arts and festivals gather in Hibiya!
Hibiya Oh! MATSURI Stage (ヒビヤオマツリステージ, Hibiya o Matsuri Sutēji)

During the weekend of the Obon festival in August, traditional performing arts and festivals from all over Japan will gather at Hibiya Step Plaza. Summer dance festivals such as the "Awa Odori" from Tokushima, "Eisa" from Okinawa, and "Yosakoi Soran" from Hokkaido will be featured, allowing you to experience the atmosphere of summer festivals from all over Japan without leaving Hibiya.

GODZILLA EXPO IN TOKYO MIDTOWN HIBIYA (ゴジラ博 in 東京ミッドタウン日比谷,  Gojira Haku in Tōkyō Middotaun Hibiya Gaiyō)

It's been almost 70 years since Godzilla first appeared before us.

Beginning with the blockbuster success of the first Godzilla film in 1954, the Godzilla series has been a milestone in special effects movies, gaining widespread popularity and overwhelming recognition among people of all ages and genders, both in Japan and abroad.

Godzilla, who has been depicted as a being beyond human understanding, sometimes plays an active role on the screen as an obstacle that humans must overcome, and sometimes as an ally of mankind. The themes of the films have reflected the social conditions of the times in which they were made, fascinating people living in each era.

GODZILLA MINUS ONE (ゴジラ-1.0/ゴジラマイナスワン, Gojira Mainasu Wan, 2023) , the first new Godzilla film produced in Japan in seven years and the commemorative 30th live-action Godzilla movie, has been highly praised for its VFX technology and won numerous film awards both at home and abroad. The Hollywood version of the Monsterverse series is also celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the new film GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE has been a huge hit all over the world.

To mark this milestone year, the special exhibition "Godzilla Expo" will be held at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya as a successor to 2014's "Great Godzilla Special Effects Exhibition" (大ゴジラ特撮展, Dai Gojira Tokusatsuten) and 2021's "Great Godzilla Special Effects Kingdom" (大ゴジラ特撮王国, Dai Gojira Tokusatsuten Okoku) so that visitors can look back on Godzilla's great achievements.  Please come to Hibiya to experience the majestic figure of Godzilla, who will continue to reign as the strongest King of Monsters, through the display of rare statues and filming props.
