The alcoholic beverage company Oenon has announced a collaboration with Godzilla, King of the Monsters, commemorating both the 30th anniversary of Oenon's "Tantakatan" shiso shochu and GODZILLA MINUS ONE (ゴジラ-1.0/ゴジラマイナスワン, Gojira Mainasu Wan), the 30th domestic live-action film in the Godzilla series!
Shiso shochu is a distilled liquor made from shiso (aka perilla) leaves. Oenon's "Tantakatan" series, which is said to carry a "fresh aroma from Hokkaido," comes from carefully selected red shiso plants. It is characterized by its refreshing aroma and easy-to-drink taste. It is recommended to drink on the rocks, with water or soda, or even with juice or tea. It can be enjoyed as a food sake or as a relaxing drink. The brand celebrates its 30th anniversary on December 9, 2022.
The product name is taken from an Ainu word for a member of the flounder family. It was inspired by a story about a flounder that, once upon a time, traveled up the river to Tantakayama, a small mountain near the town of Shiranuka in Hokkaido, in search of red shiso, which has medicinal properties. The label design also represents the story, with the main character, the flounder Tantaka, jumping in the center of the label.
For the collaboration, a limited edition label has been created with the new Godzilla-1.0 appearing in the world of Tantaka's story, and Godzilla offering Tantaka a red shiso leaf.
