Toho Co., Ltd. has provided information and photos from their new movie UNDER NINJA (アンダーニンジャ, Andā Ninja), which opens in Japanese cinemas on January 24th.

INTRODUCTION

UNDER NINJA is based on the manga series of the same name by Kengo Hanazawa, which debuted July 23, 2018 in Weekly Young Magazine. It was previously adapted as a 12 episode anime which premiered in Japan in October 2023 and is available internationally on Crunchyroll.

Directed by Yuichi Fukuda (HK / FORBIDDEN SUPER HERO, GINTAMA, THE UNTOLD TALE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS), the live-action UNDER NINJA movie stars two of Japan's hottest actors... Kento Yamazaki (ALICE IN BORDERLAND, the KINGDOM series, GOLDEN KAMUY, ONMYOJI ZERO) and Minami Hamabe (THE GREAT WAR OF ARCHIMEDES, THE PROMISED NEVERLAND, SHIN KAMEN RIDER, GODZILLA MINUS ONE).

STORY

Ninjas have always been the driving forces behind the history of Japan.

They once boasted of their glory, but after the war, the organization was dismantled by GHQ (Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers) and disappeared. However, even today, ninjas still exist in secret, hiding in everyday life and operating in the shadows all over the world. It is said that there are as many as 200,000 of them.

However, low-level ninjas often cannot find work, and Kuro Kumogakure (Kento Yamazaki), one such genin belonging to the ninja organization “NIN," is one of them.

Kuro, who lives a boring life in a rundown apartment, is one day given an important “Ninja Task” assignment. He is to investigate the movements of an organization that has been hiding underground for more than 70 years since the end of the war.

The name of the group is "Under Ninja," commonly known as "UN".

After receiving information leading him to Kodan High School, Kuro infiltrates the school as a student. His classmate Ayaka Noguchi (Minami Hamabe) is suspicious of unusual Kuro's behavior, but for some reason she finds herself a little worried about him.

Meanwhile, the elite ninjas of NIN are attacked one after another by UN. What could the UN's purpose be? And finally, the attack on Kodan High School begins...!

What will become of the modern ninja Kuro and the high school girl Noguchi, who find themselves caught up in a battle beyond their imagination?
