Tsuburaya Announces ULTRAMAN Anime Season 2, Plus Season 1 Soundtrack

Based on the positive reaction to the 13 episode 3DCG animation series ULTRAMAN (??????, Urutoraman), which has been exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix since April 1, 2019, production of a second season is now underway. The series is based on the Ultraman manga by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, which depicts a new Ultraman with a physical appearance distinct from all previous versions. The comic has been serialized in the Japanese monthly magazine HERO’S since 2011, with the English language edition available in North America from VIZ Media. News of the second season for the anime was revealed on Tuesday, June 11 (local time) at the Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Annecy in France. ULTRAMAN co-directors Kenji Kamiyama (009 RE:CYBORG, NAPPING PRINCESS) and Shinji Aramaki (APPLESEED, HARLOCK: SPACE PIRATE) were hosting a presentation on how motion capture 3DCG animation techniques were used to bring the 50 year old franchise into the 21st century, when they announced that production had already begun on Season 2. The surprised audience filled the convention hall with applause at the news. Further details will be announced over the coming months on the official site. ? Now I am certain that interesting stories can be told with this new expressive style. I will use the same method in season 2." ?
