Under the shogun`s orders, the feudal lords had to reside in the capitol city of Edo for several months of each year while their wives and families had to stay there year-round. Based on the 2012 novel Sanbunnoichi by Hanta Kinoshita, the film is the third feature directed by Hiroshi Shinagawa following his smash hits DROP (????, Doropu, 2009) and SLAPSTICK BROTHERS (??????, Manzai Gyangu, 2011). Shinagawa had written his previous films, but fell in love with Kinoshita`s novel and decided he had to adapt it for the big screen.
